This market will resolve to "Up" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 is higher than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 is lower than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If NYA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by NYSE Composite Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds aggregate real-money positions from thousands of traders, often reflecting forward-looking sentiment that differs from traditional analyst consensus. While equity analysts typically issue longer-term ratings and price targets, this market distills near-term directional conviction into a single probability. Comparing the implied odds here to published analyst sentiment on the NYSE American can reveal whether the crowd expects near-term momentum or mean reversion relative to expert opinion.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker mechanism, with each outcome represented as a separate contract. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current odds reflect the cumulative positions of all active participants; as new trades occur, the probability shifts in real time. Liquidity and trading volume directly influence how quickly prices adjust to new information, so periods of high activity typically produce tighter spreads and more responsive pricing.
This market resolves around Jul 8, 2026, once the NYSE American Composite Index's closing level for that day is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is binary: traders who backed the "Up" outcome win if the index closes higher than the previous session's close, while "Down" backers win if it closes lower. Resolution occurs automatically once the official closing data is confirmed and processed by the platform.
Macroeconomic data releases, Federal Reserve communications, earnings surprises, and broader equity market sentiment can all shift odds in this market. Sector-specific news affecting small-cap and mid-cap stocks—the primary constituents of the NYSE American—may trigger sharp repricing. Intraday volatility, geopolitical developments, and shifts in risk appetite closer to July 8 will likely drive trading activity and adjust the implied probability of an up or down close.
