Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Monday, July 20, 2026 is higher than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Monday, July 20, 2026 is lower than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If NYA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by NYSE Composite Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

The NYA index direction market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for whether the index will close higher or lower on July 20. The interface displays current bid-ask spreads, historical price movements, and total volume to help traders monitor sentiment around the index's directional outcome. This market aggregates all buy and sell orders placed by participants, reflecting the collective forecast of where the index will settle at market close on the specified date.

Prediction market odds represent real-money consensus from traders betting on the index direction, while traditional analyst forecasts rely on fundamental analysis and historical models. Markets often incorporate breaking news and intraday momentum faster than published analyst reports, making them a dynamic alternative view. However, both approaches have merit: analyst research provides detailed reasoning, while this market reflects aggregated trader conviction. Comparing the two can reveal where professional opinion and market sentiment diverge on the index's likely direction.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that adjusts odds based on order flow and trading volume. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy shares representing either an up or down outcome, and the price of each share reflects the implied probability. As more capital flows into one side, the price moves to balance supply and demand, ensuring the market continuously reprices to reflect new information and participant conviction about the index's direction.

This market resolves around Jul 20, 2026, when the trading day concludes and the index's final direction is confirmed. The outcome is determined by whether the index closes above or below its opening level on that date, verified against credible public sources. Once the close is official and verifiable, the market settles automatically, paying out holders of the winning outcome and expiring the losing side at zero value.

Major economic data releases, central bank announcements, corporate earnings surprises, and geopolitical developments can all shift trader expectations for the index direction. Intraday volatility, sector rotation, and shifts in risk appetite often trigger rapid repricing as new information emerges. Technical levels and support-resistance zones may also influence trading behavior. Traders monitor macroeconomic calendars and news flow closely, adjusting positions as the probability of an up or down close changes in response to real-world developments.
