Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 is higher than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 is lower than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If NYA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by NYSE Composite Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

The NYA index direction market on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for whether the New York Composite (NYA) will close higher or lower on July 1. The dashboard displays current bid-ask spreads, 24-hour trading volume of $130, and cumulative liquidity across both outcome contracts. Traders use this data to monitor market sentiment and positioning as the event date approaches. The interface updates continuously, allowing participants to observe how new information and market developments shift the probability of an up or down close.

Prediction market odds reflect real-money consensus from thousands of traders and often diverge meaningfully from published analyst forecasts. While traditional equity analysts issue target prices and directional calls based on fundamental research, this market aggregates live trader conviction through price discovery. Prediction markets tend to incorporate breaking news and sentiment shifts faster than formal analyst updates. Comparing the implied probability here to consensus estimates from major financial institutions can reveal where the crowd sees asymmetric risk or opportunity that professional forecasters may have underweighted.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker (AMM) model where traders buy and sell shares representing each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The cost of each share fluctuates based on the ratio of capital in each outcome pool, creating a continuous price discovery mechanism. Traders profit by buying undervalued outcomes and selling overvalued ones, which naturally pushes prices toward fair value. Liquidity providers can deposit capital into both sides to earn fees, while speculators take directional positions by purchasing outcome shares at current market rates.

This market resolves around Jul 1, 2026, once the NYA's closing level for that date is verifiable from credible public financial reporting. The outcome is binary: the market settles to YES if the index closes higher than the previous trading day's close, or NO if it closes lower or flat. Resolution occurs after official market data is published and confirmed, typically within hours of the close. Traders holding winning outcome shares receive their payout automatically once the result is finalized.

Major macroeconomic data releases—including employment reports, inflation figures, and Federal Reserve communications—typically drive significant repricing in equity index markets. Corporate earnings surprises, geopolitical developments, and shifts in interest rate expectations can all influence broad market direction. Technical levels and momentum shifts in the broader stock market often cascade into the NYA. Unexpected central bank policy announcements or changes in market volatility (VIX spikes) may also trigger rapid position adjustments. Traders monitor these catalysts closely to adjust their bets as new information emerges.
