A listed person who shares the 2026 Nobel Prize in Economics will resolve to "Yes" regardless of how many other laureates are named alongside them. If the 2026 Nobel Prize in Economics is withheld, is reserved for a later year, or has otherwise not been announced by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No". The primary resolution source for this market will be the official announcement from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, published at https://www.nobelprize.org/; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional analyst forecasts. While analysts may focus on academic prestige or recent publications, this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, incorporating a wider range of factors, including perceived political considerations and potential for surprise. Discrepancies can arise when the market anticipates an unconventional choice, or when analysts underestimate the impact of current economic events on the selection committee’s decision-making process. Examining these differences can offer valuable insights into the collective intelligence of traders versus expert opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each economist winning. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular economist, the price increases, reflecting a higher perceived chance of success. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic process ensures that the market price constantly adjusts to incorporate new information and changing sentiment.
This market resolves around Oct 13, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the Nobel Economics Prize winner is announced and verifiable from credible public reporting. The official announcement from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will serve as the determining factor. The market will then settle to 100% probability for the winning economist and 0% for all others. Traders who correctly predicted the winner will receive a payout based on the odds at the time of their purchase, while those who backed other candidates will lose their stake.
Several signals could significantly impact this market. Major publications from leading economists, shifts in economic policy debates, and unexpected economic data releases could all influence trader sentiment. Any news regarding the perceived frontrunners, such as appointments to influential positions or public endorsements, would likely cause price fluctuations. Furthermore, commentary from prominent figures in the economics community or speculation about the selection committee’s priorities could also move the market. Unexpected geopolitical events or significant economic shocks could also reshape the perceived landscape and alter trading activity.
