This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for Nikkei 225 (NIK) on Monday, June 29, 2026 is higher than the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for NIK on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for Nikkei 225 (NIK) on Monday, June 29, 2026 is lower than the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for NIK on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If NIK does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Nikkei 225 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-money bets rather than survey opinions. On this market, traders are directly incentivized to price in their genuine expectations about the Nikkei's direction, whereas analyst consensus may lag or reflect institutional constraints. Prediction markets typically incorporate breaking news and intraday sentiment faster than published research updates. Comparing the current odds here to major financial news outlets' near-term outlooks can reveal whether the crowd is pricing in risks that mainstream forecasters have overlooked or downplayed.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares that represent each outcome—Nikkei up or down on June 29. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the collective probability the crowd assigns to that result. When you buy shares at a lower price, you're betting that outcome is undervalued; selling at a higher price means you believe it's overpriced. The continuous order book ensures prices adjust in real time as new trades flow in, making this market a live barometer of trader conviction around the index's near-term direction.
This market resolves around Jun 29, 2026, once the trading day closes and the Nikkei 225's final price is confirmed. The outcome is determined by whether the index finishes higher or lower than its opening level on that date, verified against credible public sources reporting the official index close. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome receive their payout automatically. The resolution is straightforward and objective, leaving no room for ambiguity once the market day concludes and final data is published.
Bank of Japan policy announcements, inflation data, and broader Asian economic releases can significantly shift odds in this market. Geopolitical developments affecting regional stability, currency movements in the yen, and overnight U.S. equity futures also influence trader positioning ahead of the Tokyo close. Corporate earnings surprises or sector-specific news—particularly in technology and financials, which dominate the Nikkei—may trigger sharp repricing. Global risk sentiment, commodity price swings, and any unexpected central bank communications will likely drive trading volume and conviction as the resolution date approaches.
