Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for Nikkei 225 (NIK) on Friday, June 12, 2026 is higher than the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for NIK on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for Nikkei 225 (NIK) on Friday, June 12, 2026 is lower than the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for NIK on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If NIK does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Nikkei 225 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Nikkei 225 daily movement market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price data for whether Japan's benchmark stock index will close higher or lower on June 12. The interface displays current implied probabilities for each outcome, allowing traders to monitor shifting sentiment as market conditions evolve. This dashboard captures trader positioning and conviction throughout the trading window, reflecting collective expectations about the index's intraday performance. Volume metrics and price history help participants assess liquidity and identify potential entry or exit points in this market.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-money bets rather than opinion surveys. Traders in this market face direct financial consequences for accuracy, creating incentives to incorporate the latest data and sentiment shifts. While equity analysts may publish longer-term outlooks or consensus targets, this market distills near-term directional conviction into live odds that update continuously. Comparing the two reveals whether professional forecasters and market participants align on the Nikkei's near-term trajectory, or whether traders are pricing in information analysts have not yet reflected.

On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker that balances buy and sell orders for each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The odds you see reflect the cumulative positioning of all participants; as more capital flows toward one outcome, its price rises and the opposing outcome's price falls. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures the market remains responsive to breaking news, economic data, or shifts in trader sentiment about the Nikkei's performance on the specified date. Liquidity depth and order flow patterns influence how quickly prices adjust to new information.

This market resolves around Jun 12, 2026, once the trading day concludes and the Nikkei 225's final closing level is confirmed. The outcome is determined by whether the index closes above or below its opening level on that date, verified against credible public financial data sources. Traders holding positions in the winning outcome receive their payout once the result is official and the market is settled. The resolution window typically closes shortly after the Tokyo Stock Exchange's close to allow for verification.

Major catalysts affecting this market include Bank of Japan policy announcements, Japanese economic data releases, and broader regional or global market shocks. Corporate earnings surprises, currency fluctuations in the yen, and geopolitical developments can all shift trader expectations about the index's near-term direction. Technical levels and overnight moves in U.S. or European markets often influence opening sentiment in Tokyo. Real-time news flow, central bank commentary, and shifts in risk appetite among institutional investors are key signals traders monitor as the resolution date approaches.
