This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for Nikkei 225 (NIK) on Monday, August 24, 2026 is higher than the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for NIK on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for Nikkei 225 (NIK) on Monday, August 24, 2026 is lower than the official Nikkei 225 Index closing price for NIK on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If NIK does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Nikkei 225 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Compared to traditional analyst forecasts, prediction market odds offer a real-time aggregate of trader beliefs, often reacting faster to new information. While analysts may provide detailed fundamental or technical insights, this market reflects a crowdsourced probability that can diverge based on market sentiment, liquidity, and recent price action. Monitoring both can reveal whether traders are more or less bullish than consensus expert views.
This market resolves around Aug 24, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final settlement will depend on the Nikkei 225’s closing level against the defined benchmark, and the result will be finalized when authoritative sources confirm the market close. Traders should watch major financial news outlets for post-market updates.
Key signals include major economic data releases from Japan, shifts in central bank policy, geopolitical developments impacting Asian markets, and broader global risk sentiment. Corporate earnings reports from large Nikkei components, changes in U.S. Treasury yields, and currency fluctuations could also influence trader positioning. Any surprise intervention by the Bank of Japan or shifts in investor risk appetite often drive volatility in this market.
