This set of markets tracks the performance of electricity prices at the MISO Indiana Hub over a specific week in 2026. The resolution depends on whether the average price across all hours meets certain thresholds, reflecting potential stress or surplus conditions in the regional power grid.
All markets resolve based on the simple average of hourly real-time power prices at the MISO Indiana Hub for the week ending October 23, 2026, measured from October 16, 2026 at 5:00 PM EDT to October 23, 2026 at 5:00 PM EDT. Data originates from MISO’s final hourly real-time ex-post total Locational Marginal Prices (LMPs), using the rtlmpfinal report or the Data Exchange endpoint if the report is discontinued. Prices are averaged including any negative values, rounded to two decimal places with exact halves resolved away from zero; equality with the threshold resolves to 'No'. Trading closes on October 23, 2026 at 4:59 PM EDT, with the final delivery interval included. Only the first published prices are used, with later corrections considered only if accepted by the Exchange before expiration as material error corrections. Unverified, estimated, indicative, or forecast prices are excluded. Missing data points are not filled; if at least 95% of intervals are available, the average is calculated from available prices. If less than 95% of intervals are available, the market resolves only if the available data conclusively determines the outcome; otherwise, it settles at the Exchange-determined last fair price under full rules.
Currently, it's difficult to directly compare prediction market odds to specific analyst forecasts for the MISO Indiana power market. However, a general observation is that prediction markets can sometimes outperform traditional polls or expert opinions, as they aggregate the wisdom of a diverse crowd. If analysts are predicting significant volatility in power prices due to weather patterns or grid constraints, this market may reflect increased trading volume and wider price ranges. Discrepancies between this market and analyst forecasts could indicate differing perspectives on the likelihood of various factors influencing power prices.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, meaning buyers and sellers submit bids and offers, and contracts trade when there’s a matching price. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price reflects the market’s collective assessment of the probability of the average real-time power price in the MISO Indiana Hub falling within specific ranges during Week 43. Traders are constantly adjusting their positions based on new information, leading to dynamic price movements. The closer we get to Oct 23, 2026, the more the price will likely converge towards the eventual outcome, as uncertainty decreases.
This market resolves around Oct 23, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the average real-time power price reported by the MISO Indiana Hub during Week 43. The specific methodology for calculating this average will be determined by the data provider and will be publicly available. Traders will then be paid out based on whether their contracts align with the final reported average price. This ensures a transparent and objective determination of the market’s outcome.
Several factors could significantly influence this market before Oct 23, 2026. Unexpected weather patterns, such as extreme heat or cold, can dramatically increase power demand and drive up prices. Changes in fuel costs, particularly natural gas, which is a major power generation source, will also be closely watched. Any unplanned outages at power plants within the MISO Indiana Hub could reduce supply and lead to price spikes. Furthermore, broader grid conditions and transmission constraints could impact the flow of power and affect prices. Monitoring these signals will be crucial for understanding potential market movements.
