This market tracks whether Israel will publicly accuse Iran or its affiliated groups of deliberately causing the September 30, 2026, FlyDubai flight incident involving a stabbing in the cockpit. Currently, Polymarket gives a 5.5% probability to the outcome of Israel making such an accusation by October 31, 2026, as defined by the resolution source of official information from the Israeli national government. The market will consider statements from the Prime Minister or Cabinet Ministers as official announcements. Keep an eye on official statements from the Israeli government leading up to the resolution date of November 1, 2026, to see if an accusation is made regarding Iranian involvement.
On September 30, 2026, FlyDubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv diverted to Saudi Arabia following an incident in the cockpit in which the co-pilot allegedly stabbed the captain. (see: https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/diverted-flydubai-flight-israel-was-not-hijacking-incident-israeli-prime-2026-09-30/). This market will resolve to "Yes" if the Israeli national government, or an authorized representative of the Israeli national government, publicly announces that Iran or its affiliated groups deliberately caused this incident, by October 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". A public announcement refers to an on-the-record statement issued by the Israeli national government or by its authorized representatives acting in an official capacity on behalf of the Israeli national government. A statement or press release issued by the Israeli national government or any of its agencies will qualify. A Prime Minister or Cabinet Minister’s public statements will always be considered to be issued on-the-record in a capacity representing the Israeli national government for purposes of this market. A statement from a lawmaker or other government official speaking in their own capacity or on behalf of a party not in government will not alone qualify. For purposes of this market, an affiliated group of Iran is: any organization directly controlled by Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Houthis ("Ansar Allah"), Kata'ib Hezbollah, Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq, Badr Organization, and Harakat al-Nujaba. An unlisted group will only qualify if the Israeli claim itself, or accompanying statements or releases, specifies that the group is a proxy of or otherwise is controlled or directed by Iran. A general statement that it was conducted by an Iranian proxy will also qualify, even if no group is named. Such a statement will be considered to claim that Iran or its affiliated groups deliberately caused the incident if it explicitly claims that Iran or an affiliated group ordered, carried out, planned, or otherwise directly aided or coordinated the incident. Statements that attribute only inspiration or ideological influence (e.g., "this would not have happened if Iran didn't radicalize terrorists," "the co-pilot was influenced by Hamas' ideas") will not qualify. Once a qualifying announcement has been made, no subsequent walkback or retraction will be relevant for purposes of this market. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Israeli national government; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
Currently, prediction market odds suggest a very high probability of Israel accusing Iran or its proxies of a plane stabbing incident. This contrasts with typical polling data, which often struggles to accurately gauge the likelihood of specific geopolitical events with such precision. While polls can capture public sentiment, this market reflects the collective judgment of traders who have a financial stake in correctly predicting the outcome. It's important to note that prediction markets often incorporate information not readily captured in standard polls, such as insider knowledge or analysis of intelligence reports.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of the event occurring. As more traders believe an accusation is likely, the price of shares increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is driven by supply and demand, influenced by news events, geopolitical analysis, and the overall risk appetite of traders participating in the market.
This market resolves around Nov 1, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will depend on whether a formal accusation is made by the Israeli government—or a clearly attributable agent of the Israeli government—against Iran or its proxies regarding a plane stabbing incident. The accusation must be publicly documented and widely reported by reputable news sources to be considered valid for the purposes of this market’s resolution.
Several signals could significantly move this market. Any direct evidence linking Iran or its proxies to a plane stabbing incident would likely cause a rapid increase in the price of shares representing that outcome. Conversely, a strong denial from either side, or evidence pointing to a different perpetrator, could lower the price. Escalating tensions in the region, such as further attacks or heightened rhetoric, could also influence trading activity. Finally, statements from key political figures or intelligence agencies could also move this market as traders react to new information.
