Description

This market will resolve to "Yes" if Iranian forces conduct a kinetic strike on or seize control of a commercial ship between market creation and the specified date, 11:59 PM IRST (UTC +3:30). Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Attacks on military vessels will not be considered. Only military actions by Iranian forces explicitly claimed by the Islamic Republic of Iran or confirmed to have originated from Iranian territory or been carried out by Iranian forces will count toward the resolution of this market. Attacks by proxy forces (i.e. Hezbollah, Houthis, etc.) will not count toward the resolution of this market. Missile/drone strikes targeting a ship that are intercepted or otherwise do not directly impact the vessel will not be considered, regardless of damage through debris. Seize control refers to Iranian forces forcefully boarding and taking control of a commercial ship. Qualifying incidents include, but are not limited to, drone and missile strikes, aerial bombings, and kinetic actions carried out by Iranian operatives in person, such as seizing a ship by force. The primary resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting. If a kinetic incident occurs, but, on the specified date, 11:59 PM IRST, material ambiguity remains as to whether the incident can be attributed to Iran, this market may remain open for an additional 3 calendar days, IRST. If, at such time, attribution of the incident still cannot be confirmed, this market will resolve to “No”.

Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Iran shipping targeting market dashboard displays real-time odds and historical price movements for this prediction contract. The interface shows how traders are pricing the likelihood of a successful Iranian targeting action against shipping by a specified deadline. You can monitor shifts in trader sentiment, view cumulative volume activity, and track how confidence in the outcome has evolved over time. This live data reflects the collective assessment of market participants as new information emerges.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-money bets rather than expert opinion alone. Traders in this market are incentivized to price outcomes accurately, since incorrect predictions result in direct financial loss. While analysts may issue point estimates or qualitative assessments, this market converts those views into continuous, testable probabilities. Comparing the two reveals whether professional forecasters and market participants align on the likelihood of a successful targeting incident, or whether one group holds a more bullish or bearish view.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares that represent yes or no outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share pays out a fixed amount if the outcome occurs, so the current price directly reflects the implied probability. As new information surfaces—geopolitical developments, military statements, or shipping incidents—traders adjust their positions, moving the price up or down. The market price thus represents the real-time consensus probability among all active participants.

This market resolves around Jul 31, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution hinges on whether Iran successfully targets shipping within the specified timeframe. Traders should monitor official statements, maritime incident reports, and international news sources as the deadline approaches. Once the outcome is determined and verified, payouts are distributed accordingly to holders of the winning side.

Key catalysts include escalating regional tensions, direct Iranian military statements or threats, attacks on Iranian interests that might trigger retaliation, and shipping incidents in contested waters. Diplomatic developments—sanctions, negotiations, or international pressure—can shift trader expectations significantly. Media reports of Iranian military exercises or weapons deployments may also influence pricing. Additionally, any actual targeting attempts or near-misses would likely cause sharp price swings as traders reassess the probability of success before the deadline.
