Resolves Dec 31, 2026
$
Senate Democratic members will lose their re-election campaigns in 2026.
The market resolves based on the exact number of Democratic senators who actively seek reelection but fail to win in 2026. A senator counts as losing reelection only if they file for candidacy or appear on the ballot but fail to win, including losses in primaries, general elections, runoffs, retention elections, or recalls. Senators who retire, withdraw before primaries, die, resign, or are disqualified do not count as losses. If redistricting forces two Democratic senators against each other, the loser counts. Members who switch parties after market issuance remain part of the original Democratic group. If a senator loses their party primary but wins as an independent, they did not lose reelection. Outcomes cover exactly 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 losses, plus a category for 5 or more losses.
Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional polling averages. While polls attempt to capture a snapshot of current voter sentiment, this market aggregates the informed opinions of traders who are incentivized to make accurate predictions. Discrepancies can arise due to factors like differing methodologies, the inclusion of undecided voters in polls, and the ability of market participants to incorporate a wider range of information – including fundraising data, candidate quality, and historical trends – into their assessments. It’s common to see this market diverge from polls, especially further out from the election.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, meaning traders buy and sell contracts representing each possible outcome. The price of a contract reflects the market’s probability of that outcome occurring. For example, a contract predicting exactly zero Democratic Senate losses currently trades at a price implying a 94.2% chance of that outcome. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market dynamically adjusts as traders react to new information and refine their predictions, creating a real-time assessment of the election’s potential results.
This market resolves around Dec 31, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the number of Democratic Senators who lose their reelection bids in the 2026 election will be counted based on official election results certified by the relevant state authorities. The market will settle to the outcome that most accurately reflects the final count of Democratic Senate seats lost, as determined by these official results. The outcome will be based on the results of the November 2026 general election.
Several factors could significantly influence this market between now and Dec 31, 2026. Major economic shifts, significant national or international events, and unexpected candidate announcements could all impact predictions. Changes in polling data, particularly if they indicate a substantial shift in voter preferences, will likely cause movement. Fundraising reports, key primary election results, and any major scandals involving candidates are also likely to be influential. Finally, broader political trends and the overall national mood could all play a role in shaping how traders assess the likelihood of Democratic Senate losses.
