This event tracks whether Canada's primary stock market index, the S&P/TSX Composite, will reach various price levels during July 2026. Traders predict the index's peak performance across the month by betting on specific threshold prices.
Resolution is determined by whether the S&P/TSX Composite Index reaches or exceeds the specified threshold at any point between July 9 and July 31, 2026. The index value is sourced from Trading View and evaluated in its native Canadian currency and units without conversion. A single touch of the threshold level is sufficient for affirmative resolution; the index need not sustain the level. Index values are measured to two decimal places. If the index fails to reach the threshold at any point during the observation window, the market resolves to No. Post-expiration revisions to the underlying index are disregarded. Should no data be available by the Expiration Date, all outcomes except "No data" or "None" resolve to No.
Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-money bets from thousands of traders with diverse expertise and incentives. While equity analysts typically publish point estimates or ranges based on fundamental models, this market reflects live probability assessments updated continuously as new economic data, earnings reports, and macroeconomic signals arrive. Comparing the two can reveal where the crowd sees upside or downside risk that consensus estimates may underweight. Both approaches have merit; markets excel at incorporating dispersed information, while analysts provide detailed reasoning.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order-book mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts tied to specific index-level outcomes. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each contract represents a bet on whether the index will close within a defined range in July 2026, and the price of each contract reflects the implied probability. As new information arrives, traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The tighter the bid-ask spread, the more confident the market is in its pricing; wider spreads suggest greater uncertainty about the likely outcome.
This market resolves around Aug 1, 2026, once the July 2026 closing value of the S&P/TSX Composite Index is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the official index level reported at market close during July 2026. Traders' positions settle based on which outcome range the final index value falls into. Resolution is typically swift once the data is confirmed, allowing winners to collect winnings and losers to close positions.
Major catalysts include Bank of Canada interest-rate decisions, Canadian employment and inflation reports, commodity price movements (especially oil and metals), and broader North American equity trends. U.S. Federal Reserve policy and global economic surprises also influence Canadian equities significantly. Earnings seasons, geopolitical developments, and shifts in investor risk appetite can trigger sharp repricing. Traders monitor these signals continuously, so any unexpected economic data or policy announcement may cause rapid shifts in implied probabilities across outcome ranges.
