This event tracks the price movement of Chemical Lean Beef trim (0.85%) during September 2026. Traders speculate on whether the USDA-reported weighted average price will reach various price thresholds ranging from $3.65 to $5.15 per pound during that month.
Resolution is based on the USDA AMS National/Regional Weekly Boneless Processing Beef and Beef Trimmings report, which publishes weighted average prices for Chemical Lean Beef Trim (0.85%) in USD per pound. Each price threshold resolves independently to Yes if the reported weighted average meets or exceeds that strike price at any point during September 2026. A single qualifying weekly print at or above a given strike is sufficient for resolution; no sustained price level is required. If a week shows zero reported trades or a $0.00 weighted average, that week's data is treated as unavailable and the most recently available valid weekly value is substituted. If no valid data exists for the entire period, all thresholds resolve to No. Prices reflect USDA's reported FOB Plant negotiated sales basis, exclude additional handling or freight fees, and are rounded to two decimal places. Post-publication revisions or corrections to weekly reports do not affect resolution.
Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-money bets from a diverse set of traders rather than relying on a single research team's model. In this market, traders incorporate their own views on beef production trends, seasonal pricing patterns, and macroeconomic factors into their positions. While analyst reports may emphasize fundamental supply-and-demand analysis, prediction markets reward participants who correctly anticipate actual price movement, creating a dynamic pricing mechanism that can sometimes lead or lag consensus estimates depending on information flow and trader conviction.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order-book mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different price ranges for Lean Beef trim in September 2026. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The bid-ask spread reflects the current balance of bullish and bearish sentiment, with prices updating in real time as new orders are placed and filled. Traders can enter or exit positions at any time before the market closes, allowing the price to continuously incorporate new information about cattle inventories, feed economics, and broader commodity trends.
Several factors could significantly shift prices in this market before resolution. Cattle herd size reports, feed grain prices, and seasonal demand patterns for beef products all influence trim pricing. Trade policy changes, export market conditions, and domestic consumption trends can create sharp moves. Weather events affecting pasture conditions or feed production may also trigger repricing. Additionally, broader commodity market trends, currency fluctuations, and shifts in consumer preferences toward or away from beef could reshape trader expectations about where prices will settle in September 2026.
