Description

This event tracks the price of Chemical Lean Beef trim (0.85%) during July 2026 using USDA weekly pricing data. Participants predict whether the weighted average price will reach or exceed various strike prices ranging from $3.65 to $5.15 per pound.

Kalshi

Resolution is based on the USDA AMS National/Regional Weekly Boneless Processing Beef and Beef Trimmings report, which publishes weighted average prices for Chemical Lean Beef Trim (0.85%) in USD per pound. Each strike resolves independently to Yes if the reported weighted average meets or exceeds that strike price at any point during July 2026. A single qualifying weekly print is sufficient; no sustained price level is required. If a week shows zero reported trades or a $0.00 weighted average, that week is treated as unavailable and the most recently valid weekly value is used instead. If no valid data exists for the entire period, all strikes resolve to No. Prices reflect USDA's FOB Plant negotiated sales basis, exclude additional fees, and are rounded to two decimal places. Post-publication revisions or corrections to weekly reports do not affect resolution.

Frequently asked questions

On Kalshi, the dashboard for the Lean Beef trim price market displays real-time odds and historical price movements as traders position themselves on where Chemical Lean Beef trim (0.85%) will trade during July 2026. The interface shows current market sentiment, 24-hour volume activity, and the distribution of trader interest across different price levels. This live data helps participants monitor how consensus forecasts shift as new information about cattle supply, feed costs, and broader commodity trends emerges. The dashboard updates continuously to reflect the latest trading activity and market depth.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-money bets from thousands of traders with direct financial incentives to be accurate. While sell-side analysts and commodity research firms publish price targets based on fundamental models, this market reflects live consensus from participants who profit or lose based on actual outcomes. Comparing the implied probability here to published analyst reports on beef pricing can reveal where the crowd sees upside or downside risk that mainstream forecasters may have underweighted. This market-versus-analyst gap frequently highlights emerging supply or demand signals before they appear in formal research.

On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order-book mechanism where traders buy and sell shares corresponding to different price ranges for Lean Beef trim in July 2026. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each contract represents a specific outcome band, and the market price of each share reflects the collective willingness of buyers and sellers to transact at that level. As new information arrives—such as USDA cattle inventory reports, feed-cost movements, or seasonal demand shifts—traders adjust their positions, causing prices to move. The bid-ask spread tightens or widens based on liquidity and conviction around each price level.

This market resolves around Jan 1, 2027, at which point the final price of Chemical Lean Beef trim (0.85%) for July 2026 will be verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by where the commodity actually traded during that month, confirmed through official USDA reporting or widely recognized industry pricing data. Once the resolution period closes and the official price is published, the market settles and traders' positions are finalized based on which outcome band the actual price fell into. All participants receive payouts proportional to their correct positions.

Major cattle inventory reports from the USDA, changes in feed-grain prices (corn and soybeans), and shifts in domestic beef demand will all influence trader positioning in this market. Unexpected weather events affecting grazing conditions or feed production can trigger sharp repricing. Export demand—particularly from Asia and Mexico—and currency fluctuations also play a role in live-cattle and beef trim valuations. Seasonal patterns, such as summer grilling demand and holiday purchasing cycles, are already priced in, but surprises in consumer spending or foodservice activity could shift expectations. Any policy changes affecting cattle imports or tariffs would similarly move the market.
