This event tracks the price movement of Chemical Lean Beef trim (0.85%) during August 2026. Traders speculate on whether the USDA-reported weighted average price will reach or exceed various price thresholds ranging from $3.65 to $5.15 per pound during that month.
Resolution is based on the USDA AMS National/Regional Weekly Boneless Processing Beef and Beef Trimmings report, which publishes weighted average prices for Chemical Lean Beef Trim (0.85%) in USD per pound. Each price threshold resolves independently to Yes if the reported weighted average meets or exceeds that strike value at any point during August 2026. A single qualifying weekly print is sufficient; the price need not remain above the threshold. If a week shows zero reported trades or a $0.00 weighted average, that week's data is treated as unavailable and the most recently valid weekly value is substituted. If no valid data exists for the entire period, all thresholds resolve to No. Prices reflect USDA's FOB Plant negotiated sales basis, rounded to two decimal places, excluding handling, freight, or transaction fees. Post-publication revisions to weekly reports do not affect resolution.
Prediction market odds reflect real-money trader conviction and often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts on commodity prices. While agricultural economists and USDA analysts publish price projections based on supply, demand, and weather models, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders betting on the actual outcome. Comparing the implied probability here to published analyst ranges can reveal where the market is pricing in more or less optimism about beef trim valuations. Such gaps sometimes highlight overlooked supply shocks or demand signals that traditional forecasters have not yet fully incorporated.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell shares representing "yes" and "no" outcomes. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current odds reflect the last matched trade price and the spread between the best bid and ask. As new information emerges about cattle supply, feed costs, or export demand, traders adjust their positions, moving the price up or down. The platform's matching engine ensures transparent price discovery, with all trades executed at posted prices during market hours.
This market resolves around Sep 2, 2026, after the conclusion of August 2026. The outcome is determined by verifying the actual reported weighted average price of Chemical Lean Beef trim (0.85%) against credible public sources. Once the relevant data is confirmed and the event is no longer subject to revision, the market settles and traders receive payouts based on the final result. Resolution typically occurs within days of the reference period closing, pending confirmation from official reporting.
Cattle inventory reports, feed grain prices, and export demand shifts are key catalysts for this market. Drought conditions affecting pasture quality or grain availability can tighten beef supply and support higher trim prices. Trade policy changes, currency fluctuations, and international demand for U.S. beef also influence the outlook. Seasonal patterns—including summer grilling demand and fall processing cycles—typically shape price trajectories. Unexpected disease outbreaks or logistics disruptions could create sharp repricing, while USDA forecasts and industry commentary often trigger incremental adjustments as traders reassess their positions.
