This event tracks the price movement of Chemical Lean Beef trim (0.65%) during September 2026. Traders speculate on whether the USDA-reported weighted average price will reach various price thresholds ranging from $2.05 to $3.55 per pound during that month.
Resolution is based on the USDA AMS National/Regional Weekly Boneless Processing Beef and Beef Trimmings report, which publishes weighted average prices for Chemical Lean Beef Trim (0.65%) in USD per pound. Each price threshold resolves independently to Yes if the reported weighted average meets or exceeds that strike price at any point during September 2026. A single qualifying weekly print at or above a given strike is sufficient for resolution; no sustained price level is required. If a week shows zero reported trades or a $0.00 weighted average, that week's data is treated as unavailable and the most recently available valid weekly value is substituted. If no valid data exists for the entire period, all thresholds resolve to No. Prices reflect USDA's reported FOB Plant negotiated sales basis, exclude additional handling or freight fees, and are rounded to two decimal places. Post-publication revisions or corrections to weekly reports do not affect resolution.
Prediction market odds reflect the collective judgment of traders betting real money on outcomes, whereas analyst forecasts typically rely on models, historical trends, and expert opinion. This market aggregates dispersed information from participants with direct financial incentive to be accurate, often capturing signals that traditional forecasts may lag on. Comparing the odds here to published analyst estimates for beef prices can reveal where the market is pricing in more or less optimism about supply and demand dynamics. Both approaches have merit; markets excel at incorporating breaking news, while analysts provide detailed methodological transparency.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through an order-book mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts based on their belief about where lean beef trim will trade. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each contract represents a specific price range or outcome, and the bid-ask spread reflects the current consensus and liquidity. As new information about cattle inventory, feed prices, or export demand surfaces, traders adjust their positions, moving the market price. The continuous two-sided market ensures transparent price discovery and allows participants to enter or exit positions at any time before the market closes.
This market resolves around Oct 30, 2026, at which point the final price of Chemical Lean Beef trim (0.65%) for September 2026 is confirmed. The outcome is verified against credible public sources to establish where the commodity settled during that period. Once the actual price is recorded and validated, all positions are settled according to the contract terms. Traders who correctly predicted the price range receive their winnings, while those on the wrong side of the market realize losses.
Several factors can shift prices in this market: changes in cattle herd size and slaughter volumes, fluctuations in feed grain costs, shifts in domestic and export beef demand, weather events affecting ranching regions, and policy announcements on trade or agricultural subsidies. Seasonal patterns in beef production also play a role, as September typically reflects summer supply dynamics. Currency movements can influence export competitiveness, while consumer preferences and protein demand trends may alter pricing expectations. Traders monitor USDA reports, livestock futures, and industry news closely to anticipate how these forces will shape the final settlement price.
