Prediction markets and polls measure different things: polls capture voter preference at a single moment, while this market reflects traders' beliefs about the eventual outcome, incorporating polling data alongside campaign momentum, fundraising, and endorsements. Markets often diverge from polls because traders have financial incentive to forecast accurately and can update their positions continuously. Over time, prediction market odds tend to converge toward actual results as new information emerges. Comparing the current odds here to recent public polling can reveal whether traders are pricing in factors polls may not yet reflect.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader activity into real-time probabilities. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome is represented as a tradable share, and the price of each share reflects the collective assessment of its likelihood. When traders buy shares in a candidate, that outcome's price rises and its implied probability increases; selling has the opposite effect. The market price you see is the marginal price at which the next trade would execute, making it a continuous, transparent signal of market sentiment.
This market resolves around Aug 8, 2026, after the Hawaii 2nd District Democratic primary election has taken place. The outcome will be confirmed once the winner is verifiable from credible public reporting of official results. Traders holding shares in the winning candidate will receive their payout, while shares in other outcomes expire worthless. The resolution hinges on the actual primary vote count and any official certification of the results by relevant election authorities.
Several catalysts could shift odds significantly: candidate announcements or withdrawals, major endorsements from local or national figures, debate performances, fundraising reports, and shifts in polling data. Media coverage of campaign developments, voter registration changes, and turnout indicators can all influence trader positioning. Unexpected controversies or gaffes involving leading candidates often trigger sharp price moves. As the primary date approaches, early voting results and final poll releases typically drive increased trading volume and volatility, reflecting traders' updated assessments of the race.
