This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Monday, June 15, 2026 is higher than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Monday, June 15, 2026 is lower than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If HSI does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Hang Seng Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-money bets from thousands of traders rather than relying on a small number of expert opinions. While equity analysts publish price targets and technical views on the Hang Seng, this market prices in the collective conviction of participants who have financial skin in the game. Comparing the implied probability here to consensus estimates from major brokerages can reveal where the crowd sees asymmetric risk or opportunity that mainstream research may have missed or underweighted.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker pool. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on one outcome—up or down—and the price of each reflects the probability the market assigns to that result. As traders deposit capital and place orders, the pool adjusts prices to balance supply and demand, ensuring the market remains liquid and responsive to new information about the Hang Seng's likely close.
This market resolves around Jun 15, 2026, once the Hang Seng's closing level for June 15 is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by whether the index closes above or below its opening level on that date. No further adjustments or disputes are entertained after the official close is confirmed, ensuring a clean and final settlement for all traders holding positions at resolution.
Major catalysts include Chinese economic data releases, central bank policy announcements, and regional geopolitical developments that typically influence Hong Kong equities. Corporate earnings surprises, currency movements in the Chinese yuan, and shifts in global risk sentiment can also drive sharp repricing. Technical levels and support or resistance zones on the index itself often attract algorithmic traders, while unexpected macroeconomic shocks—such as changes in U.S. interest rate expectations—may trigger rapid rotations in this market as participants reassess the probability of an up or down close.
