This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Monday, July 6, 2026 is higher than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Monday, July 6, 2026 is lower than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If HSI does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Hang Seng Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-money incentives rather than opinion surveys. Traders in this market are financially motivated to price outcomes accurately, which can reveal insights that consensus analyst views may miss. While equity strategists publish directional calls on Asian indices, this market reflects live, dynamic pricing updated by participants who profit from accuracy. Comparing the implied probability here to published research on Hong Kong market momentum can highlight where professional forecasters and market participants disagree on near-term direction.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in a continuous auction format. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on one outcome—Up or Down—and the price of each reflects the probability traders assign to it. As new data on Hong Kong equities, macroeconomic signals, or global risk sentiment emerges, participants adjust their positions, moving prices in real time. The spread between Up and Down probabilities narrows or widens based on order flow, with higher trading volume typically producing tighter, more efficient pricing.
This market resolves around Jul 6, 2026, once the Hang Seng Index's closing level for that date is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by a simple comparison: if the index closes above its prior session's close, the Up outcome wins; if it closes below, Down wins. No settlement ambiguity exists because the Hang Seng's daily closing price is published by the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing and widely reported. Resolution typically occurs within hours of market close, allowing traders to settle positions quickly.
Several catalysts can shift odds before the market closes. Earnings announcements from major Hong Kong-listed companies, economic data releases from China, and shifts in global interest rate expectations all influence regional equity sentiment. Geopolitical developments, currency moves in the Chinese yuan, and broader Asian market performance overnight can create momentum. Central bank communications and corporate guidance updates may also trigger repricing. Traders monitor these signals continuously, so any surprise—positive or negative—typically produces sharp price movements as participants reassess the probability of an up or down close.
