Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Monday, July 13, 2026 is higher than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Monday, July 13, 2026 is lower than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If HSI does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Hang Seng Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Hang Seng daily direction market dashboard tracks real-time odds for whether the HSI will close higher or lower on July 13. The interface displays current bid-ask spreads, historical price movements, and trading volume across both outcomes. Traders use this data to monitor market sentiment and adjust positions as new information emerges. The dashboard updates continuously during trading hours, allowing participants to see how conviction shifts in response to economic data, geopolitical developments, or broader equity market movements affecting Hong Kong's benchmark index.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives and collective intelligence rather than individual opinions. While equity strategists may issue directional calls based on technical or fundamental analysis, this market aggregates the beliefs of many traders betting their capital on the outcome. Analysts typically publish longer-term views, whereas prediction markets price near-term moves with precision. Comparing the two reveals whether professional consensus aligns with market-implied probabilities—a useful signal for identifying potential surprises or consensus trades.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that sets odds based on the ratio of capital allocated to each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy shares representing "HSI Up" or "HSI Down," and the price of each share reflects the collective probability assigned by the market. As traders buy one outcome, its price rises and the competing outcome falls, creating a dynamic equilibrium. This mechanism ensures prices remain responsive to new information and trader conviction, with spreads tightening as the resolution date approaches and uncertainty resolves.

This market resolves around Jul 13, 2026, once the Hang Seng's closing level for that date is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is binary: if the HSI closes higher than the previous session's close, the "Up" outcome wins; if it closes lower, "Down" wins. Resolution is straightforward and objective, eliminating ambiguity. Traders holding winning shares receive their payout automatically, while losing positions expire worthless. The timing ensures all market participants have access to the same verified data before settlement occurs.

Key catalysts include Hong Kong and mainland China economic data releases, central bank policy announcements, and broader Asian equity market sentiment. Earnings surprises from Hang Seng constituents, currency movements in the Hong Kong dollar, and geopolitical developments can all shift trader positioning. Global risk appetite—driven by US Treasury yields, Fed communications, or commodity prices—often influences Hong Kong equities. Technical levels and options expiry dynamics may also create intraday volatility. Traders monitor these signals continuously, repricing odds as conviction shifts and new information becomes available before the market closes on July 13.
