This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Friday, July 10, 2026 is higher than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Friday, July 10, 2026 is lower than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If HSI does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Hang Seng Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds and traditional analyst forecasts operate on different methodologies. While equity analysts typically issue price targets and directional calls based on fundamental research, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders who have real financial incentive to forecast accurately. Prediction markets often incorporate information faster than consensus analyst views because participants trade continuously. However, neither approach is inherently superior; comparing them can reveal gaps between professional research and crowd-sourced probability estimates, particularly useful for short-term directional bets like daily index movements.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling binary outcome shares—one for "Up" and one for "Down." On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current odds reflect the ratio of capital allocated to each outcome; if more traders believe the Hang Seng will rise, the "Up" share price rises and the "Down" price falls accordingly. Prices update in real time as new trades execute, with the platform using an automated market maker or order-book mechanism to ensure liquidity. This continuous repricing mechanism means the market price always represents the latest consensus probability among active participants.
This market resolves around Jul 10, 2026, once the Hang Seng Index's closing level for July 10 is confirmed. The outcome is determined by whether the index closes above or below its opening level on that date, verified against credible public sources including the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing official data. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome receive their payout once the result is finalized and the platform settles all positions. The resolution is objective and based on publicly available market data, eliminating ambiguity.
Several catalysts could shift odds before July 10. Macroeconomic data releases—particularly Chinese GDP, inflation, or monetary policy announcements—often drive Hong Kong equities. Geopolitical developments, US-China trade tensions, and global risk sentiment also influence the Hang Seng's directional bias. Corporate earnings surprises, sector-specific news, and shifts in regional interest-rate expectations can trigger intraday volatility. Additionally, broader equity market movements in the US and Europe overnight may set the tone for Hong Kong's open. Traders monitor these signals continuously, repricing the market as new information emerges.
