Description

This market will resolve to "Yes" if Greater Tunb Island is no longer under Iranian control by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". "No longer under the control of Iran" means that Iran no longer exercises primary governmental or military control over Greater Tunb Island, and another state, occupying force, or internationally backed authority has established control over the island. Temporary raids, isolated landings, special operations, bombardment, sabotage, naval presence offshore, or temporary disruption of Iranian activity will not qualify on their own. An announcement, threat, or claim that Iran has lost control will not qualify without actual control being established. If control changes pursuant to a negotiated settlement, ceasefire term, surrender, or transfer agreement, this will qualify only once actual control has been established on the island. If control over Greater Tunb Island is contested, unclear, disputed, or not sufficiently established by the resolution date, this will not qualify, and the market will resolve to "No". The primary resolution source will be official statements from the relevant governments and militaries, along with a consensus of credible reporting.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-money incentives across thousands of traders rather than relying on a small group of experts. In this market, traders are pricing in geopolitical risk, historical precedent, and current diplomatic signals to estimate the probability of the outcome. Analyst reports typically emphasize qualitative reasoning and institutional constraints, while this market reflects dynamic, continuously updated beliefs. Comparing the two reveals where crowd wisdom and expert opinion align or diverge on territorial control scenarios.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader orders into real-time probability quotes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Shares representing "yes" and "no" outcomes trade against a liquidity pool, with prices adjusting as volume flows in either direction. Traders profit by buying low and selling high, or by holding shares until resolution. The continuous pricing mechanism ensures transparent, auditable odds at any moment.

This market resolves around Sep 1, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event status is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution hinges on whether Greater Tunb Island remains under Iranian control through that date or transitions to another authority. Traders should monitor official government statements, international news sources, and diplomatic developments as the deadline approaches. Early resolution is possible if a definitive change in control occurs and is widely documented before the end date.

Key catalysts include military escalation or de-escalation in the Persian Gulf, bilateral negotiations between Iran and neighboring states, United Nations or international arbitration rulings, and shifts in regional alliances. Statements from Iranian leadership, Gulf Cooperation Council announcements, or U.S. policy changes toward the region could trigger sharp price swings. Economic sanctions, energy market disruptions, or maritime incidents near the island may also influence trader sentiment. Media coverage of territorial disputes and expert commentary will shape ongoing probability adjustments.
