This market will resolve to "Up" if the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for FTSE 100 (UKX) on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 is higher than the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for UKX on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for FTSE 100 (UKX) on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 is lower than the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for UKX on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If UKX does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by FTSE 100 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Currently, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional analyst forecasts for the FTSE 100. While many analysts are predicting a moderate increase based on recent economic data, this market reflects a more nuanced view, incorporating a wider range of potential outcomes. It’s important to note that prediction markets represent the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially capturing information not readily available in standard financial reports. Examining the difference between these forecasts and the market’s implied probabilities can provide valuable insights into overall market confidence.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell contracts representing their belief about whether the FTSE 100 will close up or down on September 8. The price of these contracts directly reflects the probability of each outcome, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts accordingly, providing a dynamic assessment of the market’s expectations. The current price indicates the implied probability of the FTSE 100 closing higher.
This market resolves around Sep 8, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the closing price of the FTSE 100 index on September 8 will be used to determine whether the market settles in the ‘Up’ or ‘Down’ category. The direction will be determined by comparing the closing price to the opening price on that day. Traders will then be able to claim their winnings based on the final outcome and their positions in this market.
Several key signals and events could significantly move this market before Sep 8, 2026. Major economic data releases, such as inflation figures or employment reports from the UK, could influence investor sentiment. Unexpected geopolitical events or shifts in global financial markets could also create volatility. Furthermore, significant company announcements from major constituents of the FTSE 100, or changes in Bank of England monetary policy, are likely to impact trading activity and the perceived probability of the index closing higher or lower. Monitoring these factors will be crucial for traders.
