This market will resolve to "Up" if the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for FTSE 100 (UKX) on Monday, September 21, 2026 is higher than the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for UKX on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for FTSE 100 (UKX) on Monday, September 21, 2026 is lower than the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for UKX on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If UKX does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by FTSE 100 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Currently, prediction market odds reflect a different outlook than many traditional analyst forecasts for the FTSE 100. While many analysts predict a moderate upward trend based on recent economic data, this market shows a more nuanced view, with significant trading activity in both directions. It’s important to remember that analyst forecasts are based on models and assumptions, while this market represents the collective wisdom of traders willing to put their capital at risk. This difference highlights the potential value of prediction markets as a real-time gauge of expectations.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell contracts representing their belief about whether the FTSE 100 will close higher or lower on September 21. The price of these contracts directly reflects the probability of each outcome, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe the FTSE 100 will rise, the higher the price of the 'Up' contract will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information and changing sentiment.
This market resolves around Sep 21, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the closing price of the FTSE 100 index on September 21 will be used to determine whether the market settles as 'Up' or 'Down'. The final settlement will be based on widely recognized financial data sources, ensuring a transparent and objective result. Traders will then be able to claim their winnings or adjust their strategies based on the verified outcome.
Several key signals and events could significantly move this market before Sep 21, 2026. Major macroeconomic data releases, such as inflation figures or GDP growth reports, will likely influence trader sentiment. Unexpected geopolitical events, including shifts in global trade relations or political instability, could also trigger substantial price swings. Furthermore, significant company earnings reports from major constituents of the FTSE 100, and any surprise announcements from the Bank of England regarding monetary policy, are all potential catalysts that could reshape the probabilities reflected in this market.
