This market will resolve to "Up" if the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for FTSE 100 (UKX) on Monday, June 29, 2026 is higher than the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for UKX on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for FTSE 100 (UKX) on Monday, June 29, 2026 is lower than the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for UKX on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If UKX does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by FTSE 100 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader conviction and incentivize accuracy through financial stakes. While equity analysts typically publish target prices and directional views based on fundamental research, this market aggregates the distributed knowledge of many independent traders betting their capital on the outcome. Prediction markets tend to react faster to breaking news and market shifts, whereas analyst consensus can lag. Comparing the two reveals whether professional opinion aligns with market-based probability, highlighting areas where traders see value or risk that traditional forecasters may have missed.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker mechanism, where buying shares in either outcome adjusts the price in real time. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more capital deployed toward one side, the higher its probability climbs, and vice versa. This continuous pricing model ensures liquidity and allows participants to enter or exit positions at transparent, market-determined rates. The current odds reflect the latest consensus among all active traders and update instantly as new positions are placed.
This market resolves around Jun 29, 2026, once the trading day concludes and the FTSE 100's final closing level is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the index's closing price on that date to its opening level: if it closes higher, the Up outcome wins; if lower, the Down outcome prevails. Resolution is typically confirmed within hours of market close, allowing traders to settle their positions and collect winnings or losses.
Major catalysts for FTSE 100 movement include UK economic data releases, central bank communications from the Bank of England, corporate earnings announcements, and broader European or global market shocks. Geopolitical developments, inflation reports, and changes in interest rate expectations can trigger sharp intraday swings. Currency fluctuations, particularly GBP/USD movements, also influence the index since many FTSE constituents earn revenue overseas. Traders monitor these signals closely and adjust positions ahead of scheduled announcements, making this market sensitive to both scheduled events and unexpected news flow.
