This market will resolve to "Up" if the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for FTSE 100 (UKX) on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 is higher than the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for UKX on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for FTSE 100 (UKX) on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 is lower than the official FTSE 100 Index closing price for UKX on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If UKX does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by FTSE 100 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst consensus because they aggregate real-money bets rather than survey opinions. Traders on this market incorporate intraday volatility expectations, macroeconomic data releases, and sentiment shifts that may not be fully reflected in published forecasts. While analysts typically issue longer-term outlooks, prediction markets price in immediate catalysts and market microstructure, making them a complementary signal to conventional equity research.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker mechanism where buying or selling shares moves the odds in real time. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current odds reflect the cumulative conviction of all active participants, with each transaction updating the probability displayed on the order book. Liquidity providers and speculators compete to profit on their directional views, resulting in prices that adjust dynamically until the market resolves.
This market resolves around Jun 16, 2026, once the trading day concludes and the FTSE 100's closing level is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is binary: traders who backed the "Up" side win if the index closes higher than its opening level, while "Down" backers win if it closes lower. Resolution occurs automatically once the final settlement price is confirmed.
Major catalysts include UK economic data releases, Bank of England policy signals, and overnight moves in US equity futures and Asian markets. Corporate earnings announcements, currency fluctuations, and geopolitical developments can also shift trader positioning. Intraday volatility spikes, options expiry dynamics, and shifts in risk appetite typically drive the largest swings in this market as participants reassess their directional bets closer to the close.
