Description

This market will resolve according to the cumulative influenza-associated hospitalization rate per 100,000 population for the United States, as reported for the specified week. If the recorded data falls exactly between two brackets, this market will resolve to the higher bracket. The resolution source for this market will be CDC FluView / FluSurv-NET (see: https://www.cdc.gov/fluview/index.html). If the FluSurv-NET hospitalization rate for the specified week is not released by 11:59 PM ET on the tenth calendar day following the date of the prior FluView weekly report release, this market will resolve to the lowest bracket. Note: Only the CDC FluSurv-NET cumulative hospitalization rate per 100,000 population for the specified week will qualify, regardless of estimates, projections, state-level reports, or other influenza surveillance metrics published by the CDC or other sources.

Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the flu hospitalization rate market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for predictions about U.S. flu hospitalizations in Week 26 of 2026. The display shows the current price of the leading outcome—whether the hospitalization rate per 100,000 will fall between 90 and 95—alongside order book depth and recent trade history. Traders use this data to monitor how market sentiment shifts as new health data and seasonal forecasts emerge. The dashboard provides a live window into collective expectations about influenza severity during that specific week, helping participants gauge consensus and identify trading opportunities as conditions change.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-money bets from thousands of participants with skin in the game, whereas analyst models rely on historical data and epidemiological assumptions. This market's odds reflect traders' collective judgment about whether flu hospitalizations will land in the 90–95 range per 100,000 in Week 26. Analysts typically publish seasonal flu forecasts through the CDC and academic institutions, which may be more conservative or lag behind market pricing as new surveillance data arrives. Comparing this market's odds to published health authority projections can reveal whether traders expect conditions to deviate from official baseline expectations.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader buy and sell orders into real-time odds for each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Participants purchase shares representing "yes" or "no" on whether the hospitalization rate will be 90–95 per 100,000, and the price of each share reflects the implied probability. As more traders bet on one outcome, the price adjusts automatically to balance supply and demand. The current odds are visible on the order book, and traders can execute market or limit orders to enter or exit positions. This continuous pricing mechanism ensures the market reflects up-to-date information and trader conviction throughout the prediction period.

This market resolves around Jul 10, 2026, once Week 26 data for the U.S. flu hospitalization rate becomes available and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by whether the official hospitalization rate per 100,000 falls within the 90–95 range during that specific week. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. The resolution hinges on confirmed epidemiological data, typically published by health authorities tracking seasonal influenza trends. Until that data is finalized and verified, this market remains open for trading.

Several factors could shift odds in this market before resolution. Early-season flu surveillance reports, vaccination rates, and emerging strain severity will influence trader expectations about Week 26 hospitalizations. Major public health announcements—such as new vaccine effectiveness data or changes in testing protocols—often trigger sharp repricing. Weather patterns and population mobility during winter months affect transmission rates and hospital capacity. Media coverage of flu outbreaks or healthcare strain can sway sentiment quickly. Additionally, real-time hospitalization data released weekly by health authorities provides concrete benchmarks that traders use to refine their forecasts. Geopolitical or economic disruptions affecting healthcare access may also play a role in shaping final odds.
