Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional polls because they reflect real financial incentives—traders profit or lose based on accuracy, not survey methodology. While polls measure voter intent at a single moment, this market prices in evolving campaign dynamics, endorsements, and fundraising momentum. Traders frequently incorporate polling data into their positions, but they also weigh factors polls may miss, such as ground organization and late-breaking news. Over time, prediction markets have shown competitive or superior accuracy to polls in primary races, particularly when trading volume is robust and diverse.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader activity into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each candidate's contract trades independently; buying a share bets that candidate wins the nomination, while selling reflects skepticism. The price of each contract reflects the collective probability assigned by all active traders. As new information surfaces—polling releases, debate performances, or endorsements—traders adjust positions, moving prices to reflect updated expectations about the primary outcome.

This market resolves around Aug 18, 2026, once the Republican primary election in Florida's 5th district has concluded and the winner is verifiable from credible public reporting. The outcome is determined by the official primary results, confirmed through established news sources and election authorities. Until that date, prices will fluctuate based on campaign developments, candidate performance, and trader sentiment. Early resolution is not expected unless extraordinary circumstances alter the race structure.

Major catalysts include candidate announcements or withdrawals, debate performances, and endorsements from prominent Republican figures. Polling releases showing shifts in voter preference typically trigger sharp price movements. Campaign spending reports, media coverage of gaffes or controversies, and grassroots organizing efforts can all reshape trader expectations. Turnout projections and early voting data closer to election day often drive late volatility. Unexpected candidate entries or exits would also significantly impact this market, as would major national political events that reshape the primary landscape.
