Intro

This market tracks whether the Federal Reserve will increase interest rates by 25 basis points following their September 2026 meeting, with the resolution based on changes to the upper bound of the target federal funds range as defined by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). Currently, Polymarket gives a 100.0% probability to a 25 basis point increase, while the second most likely outcome – no change in rates – is at 0.1%. The resolution source for this market is the FOMC’s statement following its meeting, which is scheduled for release on September 16, 2026, according to the official Federal Reserve calendar, so traders should closely watch for that announcement to determine the outcome.

Polymarket

The FED interest rates are defined in this market by the upper bound of the target federal funds range. The decisions on the target federal funds range are made by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meetings. This market will resolve to the amount of basis points the upper bound of the target federal funds rate is changed by versus the level it was prior to the Federal Reserve's September 2026 meeting. If the target federal funds rate is changed to a level not expressed in the displayed options, the change will be rounded up to the nearest 25 and will resolve to the relevant bracket. (e.g. if there's a cut/increase of 12.5 bps it will be considered to be 25 bps) The resolution source for this market is the FOMC’s statement after its meeting scheduled for September 15-16, 2026 according to the official calendar: https://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/fomccalendars.htm. The level and change of the target federal funds rate is also published at the official website of the Federal Reserve at https://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/openmarket.htm. This market may resolve as soon as the FOMC’s statement for their September meeting with relevant data is issued. If no statement is released by the end date of the next scheduled meeting, this market will resolve to the "No change" bracket.

While polls capture sentiment snapshots, prediction markets aggregate continuous trading by informed participants who profit from correct calls. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy and sell shares representing each outcome, with the market price directly indicating implied probability. The Fed Decision in September market resolves on Sep 16, 2026, following the Federal Reserve's official announcement of its policy decision. Resolution is determined by the Fed's formal statement on interest rates and any forward guidance released during the September 2026 meeting. The market outcome hinges on whether the Fed holds rates steady or implements a change, with the specific decision communicated through the Federal Open Market Committee statement. Traders should monitor the official Fed announcement and press conference for clarity on the final outcome.

Treasury yield movements and market pricing of future rate cuts or hikes serve as real-time indicators of shifting expectations, often preceding major odds swings on prediction markets.
