The Fear & Greed Index is a widely-followed sentiment indicator that measures investor emotion in financial markets on a scale ranging from extreme fear to extreme greed. This market captures the index's sentiment classification as of July 31st, 2026.
Resolution is based on the first Fear & Greed Index value update published after 4:00 PM ET on July 31, 2026. The market resolves Yes to whichever outcome matches that published sentiment level: Extreme Fear, Fear, Neutral, Greed, or Extreme Greed. If no update is released within one week following 4:00 PM ET on July 31st, the most recently available index value will be used for resolution.
Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst sentiment because they reflect real financial incentives—traders put money behind their views and face direct losses if wrong. While analysts may issue qualitative forecasts or sentiment surveys, this market prices beliefs into explicit probabilities that update continuously as new data arrives. Traders here are motivated to incorporate breaking news, technical patterns, and macro shifts faster than formal reports can. The comparison reveals whether the crowd's aggregated judgment on market psychology differs from expert consensus, offering a complementary signal for understanding how sentiment may actually evolve by the resolution date.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through an order-book mechanism where buyers and sellers submit bids and offers for different outcome ranges or levels of the Fear & Greed Index. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each contract reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring by the end date. As new information surfaces—economic data, regulatory news, or shifts in market behavior—traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. Liquidity and trading volume influence how tightly prices cluster around fair value, and wider spreads may appear during low-activity periods.
This market resolves around Aug 7, 2026, at which point the Fear & Greed Index value for that date is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by where the index actually settles on July 31st, measured using the standard Fear & Greed Index methodology. Once the official reading is confirmed and publicly available, the market locks in and payouts are distributed to holders of the winning outcome. Traders should monitor the index closely in the days leading up to resolution, as late-breaking market moves can shift sentiment sharply.
Major catalysts include central bank policy announcements, inflation or employment data, geopolitical developments, and large cryptocurrency price swings—all of which influence market fear and greed levels. Social media sentiment spikes, regulatory news, and corporate earnings can also shift the index rapidly. Technical breakouts or breakdowns in major asset prices often trigger emotional responses that the index captures. Closer to the resolution date, any unexpected financial stress or euphoric rallies will likely drive sharp repricing of this market as traders adjust their expectations for where sentiment will ultimately land.
