Description

This event tracks the average real-time electricity price at a specific regional hub over a defined week. The outcome depends on whether the calculated average exceeds various price thresholds, reflecting potential stress or surplus conditions in the local power grid during that period.

Kalshi

All markets share identical secondary rules and calculation methodologies, differing only in their respective price thresholds. The resolution hinges on the simple average of all 15-minute real-time power prices at ERCOT's North Hub (NP6-905-CD) from October 30, 2026 at 5:00 PM EDT to November 6, 2026 at 5:00 PM EST, inclusive of the start time and exclusive of the end time. Prices are averaged without filling missing data; if at least 95% of intervals are available, the average of available prices determines the outcome. If less than 95% of data is available, the market resolves only if the available data conclusively indicates the outcome; otherwise, it settles at the Exchange's last fair price. All averages are rounded to two decimal places, with exact halves rounded away from zero, and equality with any threshold resolves to 'No'. Trading closes on November 6, 2026 at 4:59 PM EST, and only the first published prices are used, with later corrections considered only if accepted by the Exchange before expiration. Each market resolves to 'Yes' exclusively if the calculated average exceeds its specific threshold.

Frequently asked questions

On Kalshi, the dashboard for the ERCOT power price market tracks the current prices for contracts representing the average real-time power price at the ERCOT North Hub during Week 45. You'll find the implied probabilities of different price ranges, the total volume traded in this market—currently $30—and the 24-hour volume, which is $20. The dashboard also displays the top outcome currently favored by traders, though probabilities are not yet available for this event. This provides a real-time view of how PredictionHero users are forecasting power prices in Texas.

Currently, it's difficult to directly compare the odds in this market to specific analyst forecasts, as those vary widely and are often behind paywalls. However, prediction markets often incorporate a wider range of information and perspectives than traditional polls or analyst reports. This can lead to forecasts that are more accurate, especially when complex factors are at play. Examining how this market evolves over time, relative to publicly available energy sector analysis, can reveal whether traders are anticipating shifts in supply, demand, or other relevant variables that analysts may have overlooked.

On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders submit bids and offers for contracts representing different price ranges for the ERCOT North Hub average power price during Week 45. The highest bid and lowest offer determine the current market price for each contract. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This means the price reflects the collective judgment of all participants, constantly updating as new information becomes available and traders adjust their positions. The market price represents the probability of that price range being the actual average price at the end of the event period.

This market resolves around Nov 6, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final price will be the average of the real-time hourly power prices at the ERCOT North Hub, as reported by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), for all hours during Week 45. The market will determine which contracts accurately predicted the final price range, and payouts will be issued accordingly to contract holders. Traders should monitor ERCOT’s official data releases as the resolution date approaches.

Several factors could significantly influence this market. Unexpected weather patterns, such as extreme heat or cold, can dramatically increase demand for electricity, potentially driving up prices. Changes in renewable energy output—wind and solar generation—also play a crucial role, as fluctuations in these sources can impact the overall supply. Major outages at power plants or transmission lines could also lead to price spikes. Finally, broader economic conditions and fuel prices (natural gas, coal) can indirectly affect the cost of power generation and, consequently, the ERCOT North Hub power price.
