These markets track whether the average real-time electricity price at a specific hub in Texas stays above various thresholds during a defined week. Prices are calculated from 15-minute intervals, reflecting supply and demand dynamics in the regional power grid.
All markets resolve based on the simple average of all applicable 15-minute real-time power prices at ERCOT North Hub during the week from October 16, 2026 at 5:00 PM EDT to October 23, 2026 at 5:00 PM EDT. The average includes negative prices and is rounded to two decimal places, with exact halves rounded away from zero; equality with the threshold resolves to No. Trading closes on October 23, 2026 at 4:59 PM EDT, and the final delivery interval is included. Only the first published prices are used, with later corrections considered only if accepted by the Exchange as material error corrections before expiration. Missing data points are not filled; if at least 95% of intervals are available, the average is calculated from available prices. If less than 95% of intervals are available, the market resolves only if the available data conclusively determines the outcome; otherwise, it settles at the Exchange-determined last fair price. Each market has a specific price threshold, and if the calculated average exceeds that threshold, the market resolves to Yes.
Currently, there is limited publicly available data comparing prediction market odds for this specific ERCOT power price market to analyst forecasts. However, it’s generally observed that prediction markets can offer a different perspective than traditional polls or expert opinions. This is because markets aggregate the wisdom of many individuals, incentivized to make accurate predictions through potential financial gain. While analyst forecasts rely on models and assumptions, this market reflects the collective judgment of traders actively assessing available information and risk. It is important to note that market outcomes are not necessarily predictive of future events.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders submit bids (prices they are willing to sell) and asks (prices they are willing to buy) for contracts representing different outcomes. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price fluctuates based on the supply and demand for these contracts, reflecting the collective expectations of traders. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to represent the evolving probability of the ERCOT North Hub average power price falling within specific ranges during Week 43. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows for real-time adjustments based on market sentiment.
This market resolves around Oct 23, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final price will be determined by the average of the real-time hourly power prices at the ERCOT North Hub during Week 43, as reported by the appropriate authorities. The market will settle to the nearest dollar per megawatt-hour (MWh). Traders holding contracts corresponding to the actual average price range will receive a payout, while those holding contracts on incorrect outcomes will not. The resolution process ensures a transparent and objective determination of the market's outcome.
Several factors could significantly influence this market leading up to Oct 23, 2026. Weather patterns are a primary driver of power demand and generation, with extreme temperatures (both hot and cold) potentially increasing prices. Unexpected outages at power plants, whether due to maintenance or unforeseen events, could also tighten supply and push prices higher. Changes in renewable energy output, particularly wind and solar, can impact the overall supply mix. Finally, broader economic conditions and energy policy decisions could also play a role in shaping market expectations for the ERCOT power price during Week 43.
