This event tracks the average real-time electricity price at the ERCOT Houston Hub over a specific week in 2026. The outcome depends on whether this average exceeds various price thresholds, reflecting potential stress or surplus in the regional power grid during that period.
All markets share identical secondary rules and rely on ERCOT’s NP6-905-CD 15-minute real-time settlement prices from October 16, 2026 at 5:00 PM EDT to October 23, 2026 at 5:00 PM EDT. Each market resolves to Yes only if the simple average of all applicable 15-minute prices (rounded to two decimals, with exact halves resolved away from zero) exceeds its specific threshold—$20, $30, $40, $50, $65, $100, or $200 per MWh—while equality resolves No. Trading closes on October 23, 2026 at 4:59 PM EDT, with the final interval counted. Only the first published prices are used, and later corrections are considered only if accepted by the Exchange before expiration. Missing data are not filled; if at least 95% of intervals are available, they are averaged. If less than 95% are available, the market resolves only if the available data conclusively determines the outcome; otherwise, it settles at the Exchange’s last fair price.
Currently, it’s difficult to directly compare the odds in this market to specific analyst forecasts. However, generally, prediction markets often incorporate a wider range of information and perspectives than traditional polls or analyst reports. This can lead to differences in predicted outcomes, as this market reflects the collective judgment of participants actively trading on Kalshi. Analysts may focus on fundamental factors like weather patterns and supply/demand, while the market also considers unexpected events and real-time data, potentially offering a more dynamic view of the likely price range.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, meaning traders buy and sell contracts representing different price outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the latest consensus. Essentially, the market 'discovers' the most likely price range through the interaction of buyers and sellers, creating a forward-looking expectation of the ERCOT Houston Hub power price.
This market resolves around Oct 23, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final settlement will be based on the average real-time power price at the ERCOT Houston Hub during Week 43, as reported by the official ERCOT data sources. Traders holding contracts corresponding to the actual average price range will receive a payout, while those holding contracts for different ranges will not. It’s important to monitor the official ERCOT data as the resolution date approaches to understand the likely outcome.
Several factors could significantly influence this market before Oct 23, 2026. Unexpected weather patterns, such as extreme heat or cold, can dramatically increase demand for power and drive up prices. Outages at power generation facilities, whether due to maintenance or unforeseen events, would also likely lead to price increases. Additionally, changes in natural gas prices, which are a major input cost for power generation in Texas, could impact the market. Finally, any significant shifts in overall economic activity or energy policy could also play a role in moving the market.
