Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 is higher than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 is lower than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If DJIA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Dow Jones Industrial Average for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Dow Jones daily direction market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for whether the DJIA will close higher or lower on a specific trading day. The interface displays current implied probabilities for each outcome, 24-hour volume of $1,965, and a price chart showing how trader sentiment has shifted since market creation. This market lets participants monitor intraday momentum and compare live odds against consensus expectations, providing transparency into how the crowd is pricing near-term equity index direction.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives and continuous price discovery rather than point-in-time opinions. While equity strategists and technical analysts may publish directional views on the Dow, this market aggregates the beliefs of thousands of traders who profit or lose based on accuracy. The odds here tend to update faster than consensus revisions and can reveal asymmetric conviction—for instance, a narrow analyst split might show strong market-implied probability in one direction, signaling where informed traders are concentrating capital.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that allows traders to buy and sell shares of each outcome continuously. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each outcome reflects the ratio of liquidity allocated to it; as traders buy shares of "Up," the price rises and the implied probability of that outcome increases. This mechanism ensures transparent, real-time pricing and allows participants to enter or exit positions at any time before market close, with spreads tightening as volume and liquidity grow.

This market resolves around Jun 17, 2026, after the Dow Jones closes for the trading day. The outcome is determined by whether the DJIA's closing price is higher or lower than its opening price on that date, verified against credible public sources such as major financial data providers or official exchange reporting. Once the market end time passes and the final closing level is confirmed, the winning outcome is locked in and traders' positions are settled automatically.

Intraday catalysts that typically move this market include economic data releases (jobs reports, inflation figures, retail sales), Federal Reserve communications, corporate earnings surprises, and geopolitical developments. Market-moving events often occur in the morning, creating sharp directional swings that traders react to in real time. Technical factors—such as options expiration, index rebalancing, or momentum from overnight futures trading—can also shift odds. Volatility tends to spike around major macroeconomic announcements, so monitoring the economic calendar and news flow is essential for anticipating price movements.
