Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 is higher than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 is lower than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If DJIA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Dow Jones Industrial Average for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Dow Jones daily direction market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for whether the DJIA will close higher or lower on June 16. The interface displays current implied probabilities for each outcome, allowing traders to monitor shifting sentiment as market conditions evolve throughout the trading day. You can view order-book depth, recent trade activity, and cumulative volume to gauge liquidity and conviction among participants. This dashboard provides a live snapshot of how the prediction market community is pricing the likelihood of an up or down close for that specific date.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives and continuous price discovery rather than point-in-time opinions. While equity strategists and technical analysts may publish directional views on the Dow, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders who profit or lose based on accuracy. Prediction markets tend to incorporate breaking news and intraday momentum faster than published research updates. Comparing the implied probability here to consensus forecasts can reveal where the market is pricing in tail risks or opportunities that analysts have overlooked or underweighted.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker (AMM) mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The cost of each share adjusts dynamically based on the ratio of liquidity pools, meaning larger trades move the price more than smaller ones. Traders profit by buying low and selling high, or by holding shares until resolution. The current odds reflect the equilibrium price at which buyers and sellers are willing to transact, updated continuously as new orders flow in.

This market resolves around Jun 16, 2026, once the trading day closes and the final DJIA level is confirmed. The outcome is determined by whether the index closes above or below its opening level on that date, verified against credible public sources such as official exchange data or major financial news outlets. No ambiguity exists in the underlying metric—the Dow's closing price is objective and independently verifiable. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome receive their payout shortly after resolution is confirmed.

Major economic data releases—including inflation reports, employment figures, and Federal Reserve communications—can shift sentiment sharply in either direction. Earnings surprises from large-cap companies, geopolitical developments, and shifts in interest-rate expectations all influence equity index direction. Intraday volatility spikes, technical chart breaks, and options expiration dynamics may also trigger rapid repricing. Traders monitor macroeconomic calendars and breaking news closely, so unexpected announcements or revisions to prior data can cause sudden swings in implied odds leading up to the close on June 16.
