This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Monday, June 15, 2026 is higher than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Monday, June 15, 2026 is lower than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If DJIA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Dow Jones Industrial Average for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they reflect real-money commitments rather than opinions. While equity strategists may publish directional calls based on macroeconomic models, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders who have skin in the game. Analysts typically focus on longer-term trends and fundamental valuations, whereas prediction markets price in short-term volatility, overnight news, and intraday technical moves. Comparing the implied probability here to consensus analyst sentiment can reveal whether the crowd is more bullish or bearish than the Street's published guidance.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that sets odds based on the ratio of shares held for each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy shares representing "Up" or "Down," and the cost of each share adjusts dynamically as the pool composition changes. Higher trading volume typically narrows the spread between bid and ask prices, improving liquidity. The probability displayed to users is derived from the current share price, so large trades can move odds noticeably. This mechanism ensures that prices reflect the marginal trader's conviction at any given moment.
This market resolves around Jun 15, 2026, after the close of regular trading on the specified date. The outcome is determined by comparing the DJIA's closing level to its opening level for that day, with verification against credible public financial reporting. Once the official close is confirmed, the winning outcome is locked in and traders receive their payouts based on their position. The resolution is straightforward and objective, leaving no room for ambiguity or dispute.
Major catalysts that could shift odds include overnight earnings announcements, Federal Reserve communications, geopolitical developments, and economic data releases scheduled before the close. Intraday volatility often spikes around 10 a.m. ET when key economic reports drop, or during corporate earnings calls. Market-wide selloffs or rallies in response to credit events, inflation surprises, or sector rotations can also sway the direction bet significantly. Traders also watch for late-session momentum, short-covering rallies, and options expiration effects that historically influence closing prices. Monitoring financial news and futures contracts overnight can help you anticipate directional pressure.
