This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Friday, June 12, 2026 is higher than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Friday, June 12, 2026 is lower than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If DJIA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Dow Jones Industrial Average for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds reflect real-money consensus among traders and often diverge from traditional analyst sentiment. While financial analysts typically issue longer-term price targets and earnings forecasts, this market isolates a single-day directional bet, capturing intraday momentum and near-term positioning. Traders pricing this outcome incorporate breaking news, Fed communications, and overnight international market moves faster than most published research. Comparing the implied probability here to analyst bullishness on the index can reveal whether the crowd is more or less optimistic than the consensus view, offering a contrarian signal for active investors.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on order flow and liquidity. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—Up or Down—is represented as a separate contract, and the combined probability of both outcomes sums to 100 percent. Prices move in real time as participants buy and sell shares, with the current odds reflecting the marginal trader's view of the likelihood. Higher volume typically narrows spreads and improves price accuracy, while lower liquidity can widen the gap between bid and ask prices.
This market resolves around Jun 12, 2026, once the trading day concludes and the final DJIA close is confirmed. The outcome is determined by comparing the closing price on June 12 to the previous trading day's close, with the Up or Down result verified against credible public financial reporting. No ambiguity exists in the settlement process, as the index's official closing value is published by major financial data providers and widely reported. Traders will know the result within minutes of market close.
Major catalysts include Federal Reserve communications, employment data releases, inflation reports, and corporate earnings announcements scheduled before June 12. Geopolitical developments, central bank policy shifts, and unexpected economic surprises can trigger sharp repricing. Overnight moves in Asian and European markets often set the tone for the U.S. open, influencing early trading momentum. Technical levels and options expiration activity may also drive intraday volatility. Traders monitor real-time news flow and adjust positions based on evolving risk sentiment, making this a dynamic market that can swing significantly on a single headline or data point.
