This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Monday, June 1, 2026 is higher than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Monday, June 1, 2026 is lower than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If DJIA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Dow Jones Industrial Average for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-money trader conviction and often diverge from traditional analyst consensus. While sell-side equity strategists may issue broad market outlooks, prediction markets price a specific binary outcome—DJIA up or down on a single date—with immediate financial consequences. This creates stronger incentive alignment than surveys or qualitative forecasts. Comparing Polymarket odds to major investment bank technical calls or macroeconomic commentary can reveal whether traders are pricing in risks analysts underweight, such as overnight geopolitical shocks or earnings surprises.
The market resolves on Jun 1, 2026, after the close of U.S. equity markets on June 1. The outcome is determined by the official closing level of the DJIA on that date. If the index closes higher than its opening level on June 1, the "Up" outcome resolves to yes; if it closes lower, "Down" resolves to yes. This binary structure ensures a single, unambiguous result tied to widely published market data, eliminating settlement disputes.
Key catalysts include Federal Reserve communications, inflation or employment data releases, corporate earnings announcements, and geopolitical developments. Overnight international market moves, particularly in Asia and Europe, often set tone for U.S. open. Sector-specific shocks—energy prices, tech valuations, or financial earnings—can drive broad index direction. Unexpected policy announcements or trade developments may trigger sharp reversals. Technical levels and options expiration dynamics can also influence intraday volatility. Traders monitor economic calendars, central bank schedules, and earnings seasons to anticipate moves that could shift the DJIA's closing direction on June 1.
