Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Thursday, July 9, 2026 is higher than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Thursday, July 9, 2026 is lower than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If DJIA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Dow Jones Industrial Average for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Dow Jones daily direction market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movement for whether the DJIA will close higher or lower on July 9. The interface displays current implied probabilities for each outcome, allowing traders to monitor shifting sentiment as market conditions evolve throughout the trading day. You can review 24-hour volume and recent trade activity to gauge liquidity and participation levels. This dashboard provides a live window into how prediction market participants are pricing the likelihood of an up or down close, updated continuously as new trades execute on the platform.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives rather than consensus opinion. While financial analysts may publish directional views on equity indices, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders who have capital at stake. Prediction markets tend to incorporate breaking news and intraday momentum faster than formal analyst reports, which are typically updated less frequently. Comparing the implied probability here to published analyst sentiment can reveal whether the market is pricing in more bullish or bearish conviction than the broader financial community.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares representing each outcome—Dow up or Dow down on July 9. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the collective assessment of probability; a share trading at 0.65 implies a 65% chance of that outcome occurring. As new information emerges or market sentiment shifts, traders adjust their positions, moving prices in real time. The spread between bid and ask prices indicates liquidity and the cost of entry or exit for any given outcome.

This market resolves around Jul 9, 2026, once the trading day concludes and the final DJIA closing value is published. The outcome is determined by whether the index closes above or below its opening level on that date. Resolution is verified against credible public sources reporting the official close, ensuring accuracy and fairness for all participants. Once the result is confirmed, the winning outcome is paid out and the market settles.

Major economic data releases—such as employment reports, inflation figures, or Fed communications—can shift this market sharply in the hours before the close. Earnings announcements from large-cap companies or sector-specific news may trigger directional moves in individual stocks that comprise the index. Geopolitical developments, commodity price swings, or changes in interest rate expectations also influence equity sentiment. Intraday technical levels and momentum can create self-reinforcing rallies or selloffs, while late-session trading volume and options expiration dynamics may amplify volatility near the final bell.
