Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Monday, July 20, 2026 is higher than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Monday, July 20, 2026 is lower than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If DJIA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Dow Jones Industrial Average for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Dow Jones daily direction market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for whether the DJIA will close higher or lower on July 20. The interface displays current market prices, historical price movements, and $4,312 in 24-hour volume to help traders monitor sentiment and liquidity. This dashboard aggregates all bets placed on the Dow's directional outcome, giving you a live snapshot of how the market is pricing the probability of an up or down close on that specific date.

Prediction market odds reflect real-money bets from traders and often diverge from traditional analyst consensus. While financial analysts may issue target prices or technical forecasts for the Dow, this market distills collective trader conviction into a single probability. Prediction markets have historically proven competitive with or more accurate than expert surveys because traders face direct financial incentive to price outcomes correctly. Comparing this market's odds to published analyst sentiment can reveal where professional opinion and crowd wisdom align or diverge.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader bets into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy or sell shares representing each outcome—Dow up or Dow down—and the platform's pricing algorithm adjusts odds based on order flow and liquidity. The current market price reflects the aggregate belief of all active traders. Shares are fractional, so you can enter or exit positions at any time before the market closes, with prices updating continuously as new trades execute.

This market resolves around Jul 20, 2026, once the Dow Jones closing price for July 20 is finalized and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by whether the DJIA closes above or below its opening level on that date. Traders who correctly predicted the direction receive their payout, while those on the losing side forfeit their stake. Resolution is automatic and based on official market data, ensuring a transparent and dispute-free settlement.

Major economic data releases, Federal Reserve communications, corporate earnings surprises, and geopolitical developments can all shift Dow sentiment and move this market significantly. Unexpected inflation reports, employment figures, or interest rate signals often trigger sharp repricing. Sector-specific news—such as tech earnings or energy price swings—can influence large-cap index direction. Market-wide volatility events, credit concerns, or shifts in risk appetite also drive trading activity. Traders monitor these catalysts closely and adjust positions ahead of scheduled announcements, making this market highly responsive to breaking financial news.
