Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Monday, July 13, 2026 is higher than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Monday, July 13, 2026 is lower than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If DJIA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Dow Jones Industrial Average for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Dow Jones daily direction market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for whether the DJIA will close higher or lower on July 13. The display shows current implied probabilities for each outcome, historical price movements, and total volume of $8,637 across all traders. This market captures crowd sentiment on near-term equity index momentum, updated continuously as new trades flow in. The dashboard also reflects 24-hour volume of $8,637, helping traders gauge liquidity and conviction behind each side of the Dow Jones daily direction market.

Prediction market odds and traditional analyst forecasts operate on different timescales and methodologies. While equity strategists typically publish longer-term price targets and earnings outlooks, this market distills real-time trader conviction into a single daily binary outcome. Prediction markets often incorporate breaking news, intraday sentiment shifts, and options market signals faster than consensus analyst revisions. Comparing the implied probability here to major bank equity desks' near-term positioning can reveal whether professional traders and retail predictors align on near-term Dow direction, or whether one group is pricing in information the other has not yet absorbed.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader buy and sell orders into real-time probabilities for each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders purchase shares representing either an up or down close, and the price of each share reflects the crowd's aggregate belief in that outcome. As more capital flows into one side, that outcome's price rises and the opposing outcome's price falls, creating a continuous price discovery mechanism. Settlement occurs after the market resolves, with winning shares redeemed at full value and losing shares expiring worthless.

This market resolves around Jul 13, 2026, after the Dow Jones Industrial Average closes for the trading day on July 13. The outcome is determined by comparing the closing price to the previous session's close, with verification against credible public financial reporting. Once the official close is published by major financial data providers, the market settles automatically based on whether the index finished in positive or negative territory for the day. No further trading occurs after resolution.

Intraday catalysts that could shift odds include Federal Reserve communications, inflation data releases, corporate earnings surprises, and geopolitical developments affecting risk appetite. Major economic reports—employment figures, retail sales, or manufacturing indices—often trigger sharp Dow moves in the final hours before close. Earnings announcements from mega-cap constituents like Apple, Microsoft, or JPMorgan can also sway index direction. Options market activity and end-of-day portfolio rebalancing flows frequently influence closing prices. Traders monitoring this market typically watch financial news, futures pre-market action, and sector rotation trends to anticipate which way the index will finish.
