Polymarket

A by-election for the United Kingdom parliamentary constituency of Clacton is expected to be held soon following the announced resignation of incumbent Nigel Farage. This market will resolve according to the candidate who wins the second-most valid votes in the Clacton parliamentary by-election. The named candidates will be primarily ranked by the number of valid votes received in the specified election. If two or more candidates are tied on valid votes, ties will be broken by alphabetical order of the candidates' listed names. This market will resolve to the candidate that occupies the second-highest finishing position after applying this ranking. If the election results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". The resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting. In case of ambiguity, this market will resolve solely based on official election results as published by Tendring District Council (https://www.tendringdc.gov.uk/) and the UK Parliament (https://www.parliament.uk/).

Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Clacton by-election second place market dashboard displays real-time odds and price movements for which candidate will finish in second place in this UK parliamentary contest. Traders buy and sell shares reflecting their conviction about the runner-up outcome, and the dashboard logs all transactions, historical price charts, and current implied probabilities. This market aggregates liquidity and trading activity to surface the collective forecast of market participants on who will claim the second-place finish in Clacton.

Prediction market odds and traditional polling often diverge because they measure different things. Polls capture voter sentiment at a single moment, while markets incorporate real-money incentives, expert opinion, and evolving information over time. In this market, traders are betting actual capital on the second-place outcome, which can lead to sharper probability estimates than polls alone. Comparing this market's implied odds to published polling averages reveals whether traders expect a different runner-up than surveys suggest, highlighting where informed participants see value or risk.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares that represent fractional ownership of the second-place outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share pays out a fixed amount if that candidate finishes second, and zero otherwise. The current market price reflects the collective willingness of buyers and sellers to transact at that level, with higher prices indicating stronger consensus that a given candidate will place second. Liquidity, order flow, and new information continuously adjust the price throughout the trading period.

This market resolves around Jun 30, 2027, once the Clacton by-election has concluded and the final results are verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the official vote count and candidate rankings announced by the Electoral Commission or relevant UK electoral authority. Whichever candidate receives the second-highest number of votes will be confirmed as the winner of this market, and all positions will settle accordingly.

Major catalysts include campaign developments, candidate endorsements, local polling releases, and national political shifts affecting voter sentiment in the Clacton constituency. Withdrawals or late-entry candidates, media coverage of gaffes or policy announcements, and turnout expectations can all reshape second-place odds. Broader UK political events—such as shifts in party leadership or parliamentary dynamics—may also influence how traders assess the runner-up outcome. Real-time betting activity itself signals changing conviction, so watch for sharp price moves as election day approaches.
