This event tracks the Brent crude oil futures price at a specific moment on July 8, 2026. Brent crude is a major global oil benchmark whose price reflects supply disruptions, OPEC production decisions, geopolitical tensions, and global energy demand. The settlement uses the closing price of a one-minute candlestick at 5:00 PM EDT for the BRENTU6 contract.
Settlement is determined by comparing the close price of the 1-minute candlestick for Brent crude oil using the BRENTU6 contract on July 08, 2026 at 5:00 PM EDT against multiple price thresholds ranging from $68.00 to $77.50 USD per barrel, each in $0.50 increments. Each threshold represents a separate binary outcome: if the settlement price exceeds the specified threshold, that outcome resolves to Yes; otherwise, it resolves to No. Settlement is based on the nearest listed contract month, rolling forward to the next contract 5 business days before the current contract's last trading day. The close price is defined as the price at the end of the immediately preceding one-minute interval. All settlement values are rounded to the nearest 2 decimal places. If no data is published by the specified source agency for the exact settlement time, the most recently available published data will be used to resolve the market.
Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives and continuous price discovery rather than periodic reports. In this market, traders are directly wagering on the exact price level at a defined moment, which can incorporate faster-moving information than consensus estimates. Analyst forecasts typically smooth volatility and rely on historical models, while prediction markets reward accuracy with immediate payouts. Comparing the two reveals whether the crowd is pricing in more bullish or bearish scenarios than expert consensus, offering a complementary lens on energy market expectations.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order-book mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts representing different price outcomes. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each contract's price reflects the probability that Brent crude will settle within a specific range or above a threshold at the designated time. As new information emerges—supply disruptions, demand shifts, or macroeconomic data—traders adjust their positions, moving the market price in real time. The spread between bid and ask prices indicates liquidity and conviction, with tighter spreads suggesting stronger consensus.
This market resolves around Jul 8, 2026, when the specified time window closes. The outcome is determined by the actual Brent crude oil price at that moment, verified against credible public sources such as major financial data providers or commodity exchanges. Once the event occurs and the price is confirmed, the market settles automatically based on which outcome bracket or threshold the final price falls into. Traders holding winning contracts receive their payout, while losing positions expire worthless.
Several catalysts could shift prices significantly before resolution. OPEC production announcements or geopolitical tensions in oil-producing regions often trigger sharp moves. Macroeconomic data—inflation reports, interest rate decisions, and recession signals—influence demand expectations and broader commodity sentiment. Seasonal refinery maintenance, hurricane activity in the Gulf of Mexico, and unexpected supply disruptions can spike volatility. Currency fluctuations, particularly USD strength, also matter since oil is priced globally in dollars. Traders monitor these drivers closely to adjust positions ahead of the settlement date.
