This market will resolve according to the 7-day moving average of transit calls (“Arrivals of Ships”) for the Bab el-Mandeb Strait that IMF Portwatch reports for October 31, 2026. Transit calls include container, dry bulk, roll-on/roll-off, general cargo, and tanker ships. Ships not reported by IMF Portwatch will not be considered. This market will resolve as soon as the relevant data has been published. If the relevant data is not published within 14 calendar days of the specified date, this market will resolve based on the most recent data published up to that point. In case of obvious data integrity issues (i.e., erroneous data), the market may remain open until the end of the third calendar day (ET) after the date on which such data is first released to allow for corrections. Data integrity issues refer only to clerical or other similar errors in the underlying data, and do not include cases where IMF Portwatch differs from alternative sources. The resolution source for this market will be IMF Portwatch, specifically the transit calls data published for the Bab El-Mandeb Strait at https://portwatch.imf.org/pages/6b1814d64903461b98144a6cc25eb79c, both in the chart and through downloadable files. Where an unrounded and rounded value provided by the resolution source differ with respect to the resolution of this market, the unrounded value will be used.

Comparing prediction market odds to those offered by sportsbooks or traditional forecasting polls reveals how differently informed groups assess the likelihood of events. For this market, it's important to consider that prediction markets aggregate a wide range of perspectives and real-time information, potentially leading to different probabilities than those found in more static polls or bookmaker offerings. The question of how many ships will transit the Bab el-Mandeb Strait is subject to geopolitical factors and logistical constraints, which may be weighted differently by various forecasting methods.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in different outcomes. The price of each share reflects the market's collective probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust accordingly, providing a dynamic representation of expectations. The current price reflects the perceived risk and potential reward associated with each possible number of ships transiting the strait. This creates a real-time forecast based on the wisdom of the crowd.
This market resolves around Nov 1, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the average number of ships that transited the Bab el-Mandeb Strait during the final days of October, as reported by a recognized maritime data source. The platform will verify this information against publicly available data to determine the winning outcome and distribute payouts to those who correctly predicted the result. Traders should monitor news and shipping data leading up to the resolution date.
Several signals or events could significantly move this market before Nov 1, 2026. Geopolitical events impacting the Red Sea region, such as increased naval activity or attacks on commercial vessels, would likely cause shifts in the odds. Changes in global trade patterns, particularly those affecting routes through the Suez Canal, could also influence expectations. Additionally, major disruptions to shipping schedules or announcements from key shipping companies regarding rerouting vessels could impact the market. Monitoring these factors will be crucial for understanding potential price movements in this market.
