Prediction market odds and traditional polling often diverge because they reflect different signals. Polls capture voter sentiment at a single moment, while this market aggregates real-money bets from traders who incorporate polls, campaign dynamics, fundraising, ground organization, and other forward-looking factors. Markets can move ahead of polls when insiders or informed participants anticipate shifts in voter behavior. Conversely, markets may lag if traders haven't yet processed the latest survey data. Comparing the two provides a richer picture: polls show current opinion, while market odds reveal what informed participants expect on election day.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each candidate's share price reflects the collective probability assigned by the market; a share trading at 0.65 implies a 65% implied chance. As new information arrives—campaign events, endorsements, or polling releases—traders adjust their positions, moving prices in real time. The spread between bid and ask prices narrows or widens based on trading volume and conviction. Higher volume typically means tighter spreads and more reliable price discovery.
This market resolves around Jul 13, 2026, following the official by-election in the Cornwall-Meadowbank district. The outcome is determined by the candidate who receives the most votes and is declared elected by Elections PEI or the relevant provincial authority. Resolution is confirmed once the result is verifiable from credible public reporting and official government sources. Early or mail-in ballots are counted according to provincial electoral law, and any recounts or legal challenges are resolved before final settlement.
Key catalysts include candidate announcements, campaign endorsements from prominent local or provincial figures, and published polling data showing shifts in voter preference. Media coverage of candidate records, debate performances, or campaign missteps can trigger sharp price moves. Turnout expectations and demographic shifts in the riding also influence trader positioning. Major provincial or federal political developments may reshape the local race's dynamics. As Jul 13, 2026 approaches, early voting results and final-week campaign momentum typically drive increased trading volume and volatility. Unexpected candidate withdrawals or last-minute controversies can create sudden repricing.
