Prediction market odds on Polymarket often diverge from traditional polling because traders incorporate real-time information, campaign momentum, and historical accuracy patterns that polls may lag. While polls capture voter sentiment at a single moment, markets reward participants who anticipate shifts in candidate viability, fundraising, or local endorsements. For the Aberdeen South by-election, comparing market-implied probabilities to published polling snapshots can reveal whether traders are pricing in dynamics—such as tactical voting or candidate momentum—that haven't yet fully registered in survey data.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the 2026 Aberdeen South By-Election Winner is priced as a set of outcome contracts, each representing a candidate or outcome category. Traders buy and sell shares at prices between 0 and 1, where the price reflects the market's collective probability estimate. The contract that resolves to 1 (true) pays out at full value; others expire worthless. Polymarket's automated market maker and order-book mechanisms allow continuous price discovery, so the current odds reflect the latest consensus among active traders on that platform.
The market resolves on Jun 19, 2026. Resolution is determined by the official result of the Aberdeen South by-election as declared by the Electoral Commission and confirmed by relevant UK parliamentary authorities. The winning candidate—the individual who receives the most votes and is declared elected to represent Aberdeen South in the House of Commons—will be the basis for contract settlement. Markets remain open for trading until the resolution deadline, after which outcomes are finalized and payouts are distributed accordingly.
Key catalysts include candidate announcements or withdrawals, campaign spending reports, local media coverage of policy positions, and endorsements from prominent Scottish or UK political figures. Broader political shifts—such as changes in UK or Scottish Government popularity, national election results, or major policy announcements—can reshape voter sentiment and trader expectations. By-election-specific events like hustings, debates, or scandals involving candidates will likely trigger sharp price movements. Traders also monitor turnout predictions and demographic shifts in the Aberdeen South constituency, as these directly influence which candidate benefits most from voter mobilization.
