Description

A "full lid" at the White House is an official announcement indicating that the President's public activities for the day have concluded and no further public events, appearances, or news are expected. This market will resolve to “Yes” if the White House Press Office calls a full lid for the specified date by 6:30 PM ET on that date. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. Only a full lid will qualify; lunch lids, intermissions, or any other press lid not explicitly listed as a full lid will not be sufficient to qualify this market towards a "Yes" resolution. A qualifying full lid may be reported by the resolution sources through 11:59 PM ET on the following day, provided the source indicates that it was called by the 6:30 PM ET cutoff. This market will resolve according to the time listed by Roll Call of the first full lid called in the daily calendar (https://rollcall.com/factbase/trump/calendar/). If Roll Call does not list a lid time or is for any reason unavailable, this market will resolve according to Forth (https://www.forth.news/whpool).

On Polymarket, the dashboard for the White House lid call market tracks the current odds of whether the White House will issue a 'lid' – a notification to the press corps indicating no further public events for the day – by 6:30 PM on October 21. You’ll find the implied probability of a 'yes' outcome, a price history chart showing how the market has moved over time, and the 24-hour trading volume, currently at $1. Total volume for this market is $9,209, reflecting trader interest in this specific political event.

Currently, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional polling data regarding the likelihood of a White House lid call. While polls attempt to gauge public opinion, this market reflects what participants believe will *actually* happen, based on their assessment of factors like the President’s schedule, ongoing events, and political considerations. Discrepancies between the two can arise due to differing methodologies and the incentives of participants in each – poll respondents may offer socially desirable answers, while traders in this market have a financial stake in accurate predictions.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing 'yes' or 'no' outcomes. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, reflecting the collective belief of market participants. As more traders believe a lid call is likely, the price of 'yes' shares increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price indicates the probability of a lid call being issued by the specified time, with higher prices suggesting a greater likelihood of that outcome.

This market resolves around Oct 22, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, resolution will depend on whether the White House issues an official notification to the press corps – commonly referred to as a 'lid' – before 6:30 PM on October 21. The outcome will be determined by whether such a notification is publicly documented and widely reported by reputable news organizations, establishing a clear record of the event’s occurrence or non-occurrence.

Several factors could significantly influence this market. Any changes to the President’s scheduled events, such as cancellations or additions, would be a primary driver. Unexpected breaking news, particularly events requiring an immediate White House response, could also shift the odds. Furthermore, statements from White House officials regarding the President’s schedule or the likelihood of further public appearances could impact trading activity. Finally, general political developments and the overall news cycle leading up to October 21 will likely play a role in how this market evolves.
