The Socialist Party of France (Parti socialiste, PS) is holding a primary to select their nominee for the 2027 French presidential elections. The first round is scheduled to be held on October 9-10, 2026, and the second round on October 16-17, 2026. This market will resolve to "Yes" if a candidate wins the French Socialist primary outright in the first round, such that no second round is held. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No." A candidate wins outright if they receive more than 50% of the votes cast in the first round, or if the organizers of the primary otherwise declare them the winner of the primary without a second round being held. If the primary is cancelled, the first round does not take place, or the results thereof are not known definitively by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market will be a consensus of official PS sources, including https://parti-socialiste.fr/.

Currently, prediction market odds suggest a high probability that the French Socialist primary will be won outright in the first round. It’s important to remember that prediction markets represent a different kind of information than polls. Polls capture stated preferences, while this market reflects what people are willing to put their money on. Discrepancies can arise due to factors like strategic voting, information asymmetry, or differing levels of engagement among poll respondents and market participants. Examining these differences can offer a more nuanced understanding of the potential outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a 'yes' share reflects the market's implied probability of a first-round win for a candidate in the French Socialist primary. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price fluctuates based on supply and demand, driven by new information and shifts in sentiment. Higher demand for 'yes' shares drives up the price, indicating increased confidence in a first-round victory.
This market resolves around Oct 10, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the results of the French Socialist primary are verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will depend on whether any candidate receives a majority of the votes cast in the first round of the primary. The platform will then verify the official results to determine the winning outcome and settle the market accordingly. Traders should monitor news sources for official announcements regarding the primary results as the resolution date approaches.
Several signals could significantly impact this market. Major endorsements from prominent Socialist figures, unexpected shifts in public opinion revealed by polling data, or significant campaign gaffes by leading candidates could all move the odds. Furthermore, any news regarding candidate fundraising or organizational strength could influence trader sentiment. Finally, the announcement of other candidates entering or dropping out of the race could also cause fluctuations in this market as traders reassess the probabilities of a first-round win.
