Description

This market will resolve to "Yes" if, in the 2026 midterm elections, Republican candidates both 1) win one or more Senate races in states won by Kamala Harris in the 2024 Presidential Election and 2) lose one or more Senate races in states won by Donald Trump with a margin of victory of 10 or more percentage points in the 2024 Presidential Election. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Seats are attributed to the party under which the member was elected. If a member-elect changes party affiliation, or vacates their office, after election day, the seat is attributed to the party under which the person was elected. A candidate will be considered to be a Republican if they are the nominee of or have a ballot-listed affiliation with the Republican Party. Candidates who run as independents or third-party candidates will not be considered to be Republicans regardless of affiliation or caucus decisions. This market will consider all regular and special Senate elections that determine representation in the upcoming 120th Congress and are scheduled to take place in November 2026 as of October 31, 2026. Runoffs for qualifying elections will determine attribution of the relevant seat, even if they take place after November 2026. The margin of victory in a given state in the 2024 Presidential election is the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-and second-place candidates in that state. Percentages of the valid votes received by each candidate are determined by dividing the total number of valid votes each of the top two candidates receives by the sum of all valid votes cast in the election. In the event that the winner of an election cannot be determined by March 31, 2027, that election will not be considered for purposes of this market. The resolution sources for this market will be official information from relevant state electoral authorities, the United States Congress, and a consensus of credible reporting.

Currently, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional polling averages regarding the balance of power in the Senate. While polls provide a snapshot of voter sentiment at a given time, this market reflects a continuously updated assessment of probabilities based on informed traders. Discrepancies may arise due to factors not fully captured in polls, such as strategic considerations or the influence of late-breaking events. The market's implied probability is a forward-looking estimate, incorporating a wider range of information than a simple poll average.

On Polymarket, this market is priced using a continuous double auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of the event occurring – a higher price indicates a greater perceived chance of Republicans losing a seat in a Trump+10 state and winning in a Kamala state. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price fluctuates based on supply and demand, driven by new information and shifts in trader sentiment. This creates a dynamic and real-time assessment of the potential Senate landscape.

This market resolves around Nov 4, 2026, following the 2026 Senate elections. The outcome will be determined by verifying whether Republicans lose at least one Senate seat in a state that Donald Trump won by more than 10 percentage points in 2020, and simultaneously win at least one Senate seat in a state that Kamala Harris won in 2020. The result will be confirmed once the election results are verifiable from credible public reporting, including official election results and reporting from major news organizations.

Several signals and events could significantly impact this market. Major economic shifts, significant legislative developments, or unexpected candidate announcements could all influence trader sentiment. Polling data releases in key Senate races will also be closely watched. Furthermore, any major political scandals or unforeseen events affecting either party’s chances could lead to substantial price movements. Changes in the political landscape and evolving perceptions of candidate viability are likely to drive trading activity in this market until its resolution.
