This market will resolve according to the party that wins control of the United States House of Representatives in the 2026 United States midterm election. A party wins control of the United States House of Representatives if it wins a majority of the chamber’s voting seats. If no party wins a majority of voting seats, the chamber will be deemed controlled by the party with which the first elected Speaker of the House of the Congress that convenes after the 2026 midterm election is affiliated. The following rules govern the counting of seats for determining which party wins control of the chamber. All House elections in the 2026 United States midterm election that elect voting members and determine representation in the upcoming 120th Congress are included. Where a seat is decided by a runoff, the runoff result will determine attribution of that seat. Seats are attributed to the party under which the member was elected. If a member-elect changes party affiliation, or vacates their seat, between election day and the formal organization of Congress, the seat is attributed to the party under which the member was elected. House members elected as independents who formally caucus with, or, for newly elected members, who announce their intent to caucus with, a party are included in that party’s count. If the caucus decisions of members of the House elected as independents cannot be determined on the date of the election, this market may remain open until the earlier of (i) an announcement from the relevant members of their intents to caucus, or (ii) January 4th, 11:59 PM ET of the following calendar year. If no such announcement is made by January 4th, 11:59 PM ET of the following calendar year, the member will not count towards the seat count of any party. The resolution sources for this market will be official information from relevant state electoral authorities, the United States Congress, and a consensus of credible reporting.

Currently, this market reflects a different perspective than traditional polling data. Polling averages often focus on individual candidates and immediate voter sentiment, while this market aggregates the informed opinions of many traders looking ahead to the 2026 election. Discrepancies can arise due to factors like differing methodologies, the inclusion of strategic information by market participants, and the ability of the market to incorporate new information more rapidly than polls. It's important to consider both sources when evaluating the potential outcome of the 2026 House elections.
On Predict, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders buy and sell contracts representing each possible outcome – in this case, control of the House by the Republican or Democratic Party. The price of each contract reflects the market's collective assessment of its probability. On Predict, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust, providing a dynamic and real-time forecast. The current price indicates the implied probability of each party winning control, based on the aggregated actions of all participants.
This market resolves around Nov 4, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The winning party will be determined by which party holds the majority of seats in the House of Representatives following the 2026 midterm elections. The resolution will be based on official election results and reporting from established news sources.
Several factors could influence the outcome of this market, including economic conditions, major political events, shifts in public opinion, and the performance of individual candidates. Unexpected events or changes in the political landscape leading up to the 2026 elections could significantly alter the perceived probabilities reflected in this market. Additionally, voter turnout and the specific dynamics of key congressional districts will play a crucial role in determining which party ultimately gains control of the House.
